TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's tennis team split its final two regular season matches on Saturday, falling to Navy, 6-1, and defeating Coppin State, 7-0.
Towson wraps up the regular season with a 13-10 overall record. Navy improved to 17-10 with the victory while Coppin State fell to 3-11.
How it Happened (Navy)
- The Mids opened the match by securing the doubles point. Rozel Hernandez and Carlee Conway defeated A.J. Gomer and Renate van Oorschodt, 6-2, at No. 1 doubles. At the second flight, Amanda Keller and Kaylah Hodge posted a 6-4 win over Lucy Williams and Yevgeniya Shusterman to clinch the doubles point. Towson's lone doubles win came at the No. 3 spot as Barbora Vasilkova and Sophie Lesage defeated Audrey Channell and Catalina Rico, 6-4.
- Towson opened singles play with a win at the No. 2 spot but that wasn't enough for the Tigers as Navy won the remaining five matches. Lucy Williams earned a 6-3, 6-2 win against Josie Rogers.
- At No. 4 singles, Emily Louie-Meadors bested Barbora Vasilkova, 6-4, 6-2.
- Kaylah Hodge posted a 6-3, 6-4 win against Renate van Oorschodt at the No. 5 flight.
- Ansofi Wreder defeated A.J. Gomer, 6-4, 6-4, at the No. 3 spot.
- At the top singles flight, Amanda Keller earned a 7-5, 6-4 win against Nicole Shakhnazarova.
- The final singles win for Navy came at the sixth flight as Carlee Conway battled for a tough 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) win against Lucy Gloninger.
How it Happened (Coppin State)
- The Tigers swept doubles play and all six singles matches for the 7-0 sweep over the Eagles.
- At the top doubles flight, A.J. Gomer and Renate van Oorschodt posted a 6-0 win over Tanna Nita and Ajla Hrnjic. At No. 2 doubles, Barbora Vasilkova and Lucy Gloninger combined for a 6-0 win over Carentxa Goede and Brittanie Cahua. The final doubles match was a 6-0 win by Sophie Lesage and Nicole Shakhnazarova against Precious Udofe and Tinashe Gwaze.
- Playing at the top flight for the first time this season, Lucy Williams bested Precious Udofe 6-2, 6-0.
- A.J. Gomer earned a 6-0, 6-1 win against Carentxa Goede at the second flight.
- Barbora Vasilkova posted an impressive 6-0, 6-0 win against Tanna Nita at the No. 3 spot.
- Lucy Gloninger also had a strong showing at the fourth flight, besting Tinashe Gwaze 6-0, 6-0.
- At No. 5 singles, Sophie Lesage defeated Brittanie Cahua 6-0, 6-3.
- Yevgeniya Shusterman earned a 6-0, 6-1 win against Ajla Hrnjic at the sixth flight.
