NewDay USA Student-Athletes of the Week: Week 30

General

NewDay USA Student-Athletes of the Week: April 10-16

TOWSON, Md. – After a weekend filled with career bests, the 30th edition of the NewDay USA Student-Athletes of the Week were announced on TowsonTigers.com Tuesday afternoon.

Senior sprinter Megan Kelly of the women's outdoor track and field team was selected as the Female Student-Athlete of the Week, while redshirt senior men's lacrosse midfielder Brian Bolewicki was tapped as the Male Student-Athlete of the Week.

Kelly is the second outdoor track and field student-athlete to win the honor this season, her first of the season. Bolewicki collects his first NewDay USA Student-Athlete of the Week plaudits of the year while a men's lacrosse player wins the award for a fourth time.

Kelly set two school records to help the Towson University outdoor track and field program win the 2017 Towson Invitational on Saturday. The Tigers finished first out of 16 participating teams in their only home meet of 2017. Kelly won the 400-meter dash with a school record time of 54.25, besting the previous mark of 55.39 set by Jill Meshey in 2007. Kelly's time in the 400m dash is top in the conference, ranks 46th in the NCAA Division I East Region and 82nd in the country. Kelly also ran anchor on the victorious 4x400m relay (Zanae Freeland, Liz Reid, Jamila Brown, Megan Kelly) that timed a school record 3:44.38. That time ranks second in the CAA and ranks 81st in the NCAA Division I East Region. This season, Kelly also holds the top conference time for the 400m hurdles (59.84) and ranks 37th in the NCAA Division I East Region and 64th in the country.

Bolewicki posted a career-best four points on two goals and two assists in the Tigers' third Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) win of the season. He had the decisive goal in Towson's 10-6 win at longtime rival Delaware on Saturday. Bolewicki's goals came in decisive moments in the game, as his first tied the game at 1-1 late in the first while his second strike gave the Tigers a 7-5 lead. The redshirt senior middie now has at least one point in each of the last four games, racking up six goals and three assists.

The next NewDay USA Student-Athlete of the Week honors will be announced on Tuesday, April 25 for competition between April 17-23. Stay tuned to TowsonTigers.com for highlights and information!
