TOWSON. Md. – The Towson University baseball team scored the first three runs of the game, but Northeastern scored five runs over the final four innings to defeat the Tigers, 5-3, Sunday afternoon at Schuerholz Park.
How it Happened
- Richie Palacios started a one-out rally in the first inning with a double into the gap in left center. After moving to third on an A.J. Gallo single, Richard Miller delivered a sacrifice fly to left to score Palacios.
- The Tigers added to the lead in the third as Mark Grunberg and Palacios walked before both came around to score on a Gallo single to left field.
- Right hander Michael Adams made the lead hold up as he kept the Huskies' hitters off the board for the first five innings.
- NU pushed across an unearned run in the sixth inning after the leadoff hitter reached on an error and scored on a single from Mason Koppens.
- The Huskies added a run in the seventh after a two-out hit batter scored on a double from Charlie McConnell.
- NU took their first lead of the game in the eighth inning after a pair of singles and an error loaded the bases with no outs. Pat Madigan followed with a two-run single through the left side.
- An insurance run was tacked on in the top of the ninth for the final margin.
- Adams turned in another quality start, but did not factor into the decision. He allowed three runs, two earned, on hits and five strikeouts over seven innings.
- Kyle Stricker (1-2) took the loss after giving up two runs on four hits over two innings.
- Brian Christian (3-0) picked up the victory after he surrendered three runs on seven hits and 11 strikeouts over seven innings.
- Kyle Murphy (1) did not allow a hit over two innings to earn the save.
- Palacios, Gallo and Colin Gimblet each collected two hits.
