Wilson Extends Hit Streak In Series Finale Setback to UNCW

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Madison Wilson and Kendyl Scott led the Towson offense during a 1-0 loss to UNCW in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) softball action at Boseman Field Sunday afternoon.
 
The difference in the game was UNCW taking advantage of an error in the fourth inning to score the only run of the contest. Meanwhile, Towson couldn't do the same in the seventh inning as it left the potential tying run stranded at third base to end the game.  
 
The loss along with Elon's win over Delaware officially eliminated Towson from CAA Tournament contention.
 
Prior to the start of the game, Towson seniors Jessica South, Carly DeLauder, Holiday Cahill, and Caroline Reid were recognized.

How It Happened
  • Scott and Wilson had hits Towson's only hits of the game.
  • Wilson's first-career triple sailed over the leftfielders head and went to the fence in the fourth inning.
  • Wilson extended her hitting streak to six games.
  • The Tigers had two chances to get Wilson home with less than two outs.
  • Unfortunately for Towson, the next two batters grounded out to the pitcher.
  • Scott singled and stole second base with two outs.
  • Daria Edwards opened the seventh inning by reaching base on an error.
  • Edwards was at second base with no outs and at third base with one out.
  • Megan Dejter struck out three batters and pitched a strong game.
  • The Tigers committed two errors in the fourth inning.
  • Kelsey Bryan had three bunt singles for UNCW.
  • Lauren Moore drove in the only run of the game with a two-out single in the fourth inning.
  • Peyton Jordan tossed her fourth shutout of the season.
 
Defensive Gems
  • Brook Miko made a terrific play to begin the bottom of the fourth inning. The shortstop dove to her left to stop a hard-hit ball. After securing the ball in her glove, Miko fired a rocket to first base from her knees.
  • UNCW had runners on first and third with one out in the fifth inning. However, Wilson immediately ended that threat as she snagged a hard-hit line drive to begin a huge inning-ending double play. After catching the ball, Wilson stepped on first base.

  • Towson finished 6-14 on the road this season.
  • Towson dropped to 3-13 in one-run games.
  • The Tigers fell to 2-12 when scoring less than two runs.
  • Towson was 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position.
  • Wilson is hitting .433 in Towson's last 10 games.
 
Up Next
Towson concludes its regular season with a home series against the College of Charleston. The Tigers and Cougars will play a doubleheader on Friday at noon and a single game on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. Towson won three out of five meetings against the College of Charleston last season including twice in the CAA Tournament. The Cougars swept Hofstra this weekend.
