Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

One is All They Need as Tigers Top Lehigh on the Road

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – One is all you need if you're on the Towson University women's soccer team. The Tigers picked up a 1-0 win on the road Thursday night at Lehigh University's Ulrich Sports Complex.

Sophomore forward Elizbaeth Coletti booted the game-winning goal after a defensive stalemate through much of the contest.

Towson (3-1-1) logged its third shutout in the last four games, while going 2-0-1 on the road over the last week.

How It Happened
  • Lehigh (2-1-1) came out aggressive, connecting several passes in the seventh minute before Sabrina Mertz took back-to-back shots, including a dangerous header that was halted by Tiger redshirt senior keeper Taylor Sebolao.
  • Towson countered four minutes later with sustained pressure of its own, with junior forward Evelyn Neidert sending in a near perfect cross that was punched free by Lehigh goalie Sam Miller.
  • In the 20th minute, Mountain Hawk Adrian Vitello took a shot from long distance that found its way goalward, but Sebolao made her second save of the first half, pinning the ball against the cross bar to keep it free of the goal.
  • After Tiger defender Alexis Toles broke up a Lehigh counter, the game went into halftime scoreless.
  • Once again in the early half, Lehigh controlled the pace, getting a corner kick but the resulting shot from Kayla Arestivo went wide right.
  • Two minutes later, junior midfielder/forward Sarah Quick juked Miller, who slipped to the ground, allowing Quick a passing lane to Maddie Bové. The senior's shot went just right of the mark, keeping things scoreless.
  • A dozen minutes later, Coletti slipped through the Mountain Hawk defense and flicked a shot over Miller to break the deadlock in the 67th minute. It marked her first goal since Sept. 9, 2016 against Bowling Green.

Behind the Numbers
  • Lehigh out-shot the Tigers 24-9, but Towson put six shots on goal.
  • Sebolao stopped nine Lehigh shots for her third clean sheet of the season. Her counterpart stopped five Tiger attempts.
  • The Tigers took four corner kicks, all coming in the first half. Lehigh earned just one, taking it in the 53rd minute.
  • Towson improved to 2-0-0 against the Patriot League this season, coupled with a 1-0 win at the Tiger Soccer Complex over Loyola.
  • The Tigers won their fifth-straight game over opponents with non-mythical bird mascots.
  • Towson is now 5-2-0 all-time against Lehigh, getting its first win in Bethlehem since Sept. 23, 2002.

Up Next for Towson
  • Towson returns home after a successful three-game road swing.
  • The Tigers host Saint Joseph's University on Sunday afternoon for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
  • Sunday's match will be the first-ever game at the Tiger Soccer Complex between Towson and the Hawks.
