Sykes Scores Second Goal in Loss to Georgetown

TOWSON, Md. – Freshman Kendra Sykes scored her team-leading second goal of the season on Sunday, but Georgetown scored four times in the first half en route to a 5-1 nonconference victory Sunday at Unitas Stadium.

How It Happened
  • Towson (0-8) limited Georgetown to just one shot over the first seven minutes before the Hoyas scored the game's first goal off a penalty corner just over seven minutes in.
  • The Tigers answered with the game's next two shots with Sykes tying the game at 1-1 when she scored off an assist from senior Taylor Kvilhaug.
  • However, the Hoyas (5-3) answered with another goal off their third penalty corner of the game.
  • Georgetown's third goal came off another corner just under five minutes later to put the visitors up 3-1.
  • The Hoyas scored three goals off of seven penalty corners in the opening half.
  • Georgetown added a fourth goal with less than 10 minutes remaining in the first half when Ali Cronin scored off her own rebound after her initial shot was saved by senior Emilee Woodall.
  • Towson was held to just one shot and no penalty corners in the second half.
  • The Hoyas capped the scoring with under 12 minutes remaining when Cami Osborne scored her second goal of the game.

Inside the Numbers
  • Towson totaled four first-half shots, its third-most in a half this season. The three highest totals have all come in the first half of the last three games. The team had six at Rider and five versus American.
  • The Tigers have totaled 10 points this season. Kvilhaug's assist was the first point this season that did not come from a freshman. All four of the team's goals have been scored by freshman.
  • Six freshman were in the starting lineup today, the second-most the team has had this season. Towson started seven freshmen against No. 20 American.
  • Sunday marked the 34th meeting between the Tigers and Hoyas. It is the fifth-longest series in Towson history behind Delaware and Hofstra (39 games), American (37) and Drexel (35). The Tigers have won 10 of the last 14 meetings.
  • Woodall finished with eight saves, making four in each half. It is just the second time she has played a full game and made less than 10 saves this season.

Up Next
  • Towson hits the road for two games next week, beginning at Sacred Heart on Friday.
