Towson Falls Short At Elon

ELON, N.C. – Zane Martin scored a career best 27 points to the lead the Towson University men's basketball team during its 75-72 setback to Elon in a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) contest at Alumni Gym Tuesday night.

How It Happened
  • Elon's Dmitri Thompson scored the final four points of the contest in the last 26 seconds to provide the winning margin.
  • His layup with 26 seconds left gave Elon the lead for good, 73-72.
  • The Tigers had two great looks – one to give them lead with under 10 seconds remaining and another that bounced off the front of the rim as the final buzzer sounded that would've forced overtime.
  • In addition to Martin, Eddie Keith II added 10 points, including a put back of a missed shot with 56 seconds remaining that gave the Tigers their final lead of the game, 72-71.
  • Justin Gorman and Deshaun Morman provided a lift off the bench with nine points each.
  • Morman also added six rebounds and four steals.
  • Towson had a trio of six point leads with under 10 minutes remaining, the last following a Martin 3-pointer that gave Towson a 62-56 lead with 7:13 left.
  • In raising its home record to 6-0, the Phoenix made eight of its 11 3-pointers in the second half.
  • Elon scored 48 points in the second half on 69.2 percent shooting.
  • The Tigers were just as hot as they scored 41 points on 60.7 shooting.
  • Elon made four of its final five shots.
  • Trailing, 49-45 with 12:33 left, the Tigers responded with a 12-2 burst that gave them a 57-51 lead with under nine minutes left.
  • Towson opened its largest advantage of the first half, 31-21, with 4:07 remaining after a Martin foul shot.
  • After the Phoenix opened the game with a 3-pointer on its first possession, consecutive 3-pointers from Brian Starr and Martin quickly erased that deficit
  • The Tigers led for the final 18:11 of the first half.
  • Elon opened the game 3-of-15 shooting from the field.
  • Towson made more 3-pointers (four) than Elon (three) did in the opening 20 minutes.
  • Four players reached double figures for Elon led by Steven Santa Ana's 17 points.
  • Tyler Seibring (16 points), Thompson (15) and Dainan Swoope (12 points, six assists) made key plays for Elon.

  • This was the 10th time this season, Elon made double digit 3-pointers.

  • The seven free-throw attempts match a season low for the Tigers.
