Tigers Down CAA Rival Delaware in Home Finale on Senior Day

TOWSON, Md. - The Towson University men's swimming team posted nine event wins on Saturday, sweeping both diving events as the Tigers posted a 173.5-124.5 victory over CAA rival Delaware in their home finale inside Burdick Hall on senior day.

Leading the way were freshman Will Canny who swept both the 1 and 3-meter diving events and junior Evan Bishop who had wins in the 200-yard backstroke and 200-yard butterfly.

Swimming in his final home meet, senior Nick Essing won the 50-yard freestyle and was a part of two relay victories in the 200-yard freestyle relay and 200-yard medley relay.

How it Happened
  • Canny began the meet with wins in 1 and 3-meter diving, totaling 262.65 and 294.15 points, respectively. Junior Jake Casey finished second in both, totaling 199.95 and 199.65 points.
  • Bishop won the 200 back in a time of 1:50.94 and the 200 fly in 1:54.56.
  • Nick Essing won the 50 free in 20.98 seconds, edging out his brother, sophomore Matt Essing, who placed second in 21.34 seconds. The two joined junior Jack Saunderson and sophomore Ryan O'Leary to win the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:33.53.
  • Nick Essing also joined Saunderson and seniors Colin Roddy and Matt Sieffert for a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:26.23.
  • In addition to two relay victories, Saunderson also captured the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 45.80 seconds.
  • Individually, Sieffert finished second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:45.34) and fourth in the 500-yard freestyle (4:44.02).
  • Roddy had two third-place finishes in the breaststroke, posting a time of 1:00.53 in the 100 and a mark of 2:11.34 in the 200.
  • O'Leary won the 100 breast in 58.14 seconds and was second in the 200 breast with a time of 2:07.05.
  • Junior Aaron Magazine had two second-place finishes in the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle while freshman Erek Nelson had two runner-up showings in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke.
  • Freshman Nick McClure had a second-place finish in the 200 fly while junior Richard Keller placed second in the 400-yard individual medley.
