Tigers Sweep Tribe on Senior Day at SECU Arena

TOWSON, Md. -- The Towson University women's volleyball team capped a 3-0 week with a clean sweep of William & Mary at SECU Arena. Sunday's result gave the Tigers back-to-back sweeps in a three-day span.

Prior to the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) match, with set scores of 25-17, 25-20, 25-13, the Tigers recognized their four-member senior class: Anna Holehouse, Jocelyn Kuilan, Peyton Moyles and Olamide Sonuga.

In the three-set match, Towson (14-14, 8-6, CAA) continued its torrid blocking pace, coming up with another eight against the Tribe. Rookie Emily Jarome led Towson's attack efforts with 11 kills on just 19 swings, hitting for .474 in the match. The Tigers swung at a .329 percent clip, including a hefty .448 in the first set.

William & Mary (5-18, 1-13 CAA) was held to a .047 hitting percentage in the match thanks to Towson's blocks. Lauren Merrill led the Tribe with nine kills on 24 swings. Katie Kemp hoisted 18 assists to led the afternoon.

How it Happened
  • A lengthy senior day ceremony and its emotion did not phase the Tigers as Towson roared out to a 5-1 lead early in the first set. The Tribe trimmed the lead down to 5-4 before the Tiger rebuilt the lead out to 10-6.
  • Once again, William & Mary pulled within one of the Tigers, but Towson put in distance with a 3-0 run for a 15-11 lead. The Tigers closed the door on the first frame with a 9-4 run to claim the set 25-17.
  • Towson continued to come out strong as it opened a quick 8-2 lead in the second set, fighting off a William & Mary timeout along the way. The two sides went back and forth before the Tigers eventually gained a 16-10 lead.
  • The Tigers held a seven-point, 21-14 lead but William & Mary nearly caught back up and made it 23-20 in favor of Towson. Back-to-back kills from Jarome and Kuilan put the set away, 25-20, for the Tigers.
  • Opening the third set, the frame was tighter as the Tigers went up 3-1 before William & Mary tied things at 4-4 and 5-5 but back-to-back Tiger points from Jarome on a kill and an ace gave Towson a lead it would not relinquish for the remainder of the afternoon.
  • With things swinging Towson's way, the Tigers rattled off five-straight points for a 15-7 lead. Towson put together a 7-1 run to put in separation in the form of a 21-10 lead. The Tigers scored three of the final four points for a 25-13 set win and took the match 3-0.
