Offensive Outburst Lifts Towson Past North Carolina A&T

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Daria Edwards reached base in all four plate appearances to lead the Towson University softball team to a 19-3 victory over North Carolina A&T in the Wingate by Wyndham Invitational Saturday morning.

Towson produced so much offense that an accountant was necessary to tally up the final numbers.

This was the first time Towson scored at least 19 runs in a game since it did it against Coppin State in 2005. In fact, this was the seventh time since 1980, that Towson has scored 19 or more runs in a game.

Once again, the Tigers received contributions throughout their lineup. Edwards, Kaylen Minnatee, Madison Wilson, and Nicole Stockinger led Towson with three hits each. Shelby Stracher, Nicole Stockinger, and Julia Smith-Harrington drove in three runs each to pace a scorching Towson 21-hit attack.

How It Happened
  • Towson started fast and never slowed down.
  • Fueled by Madison Wilson's two hits in the top of the first inning, Towson scored six runs in the top of the first inning.
  • Smith-Harrington's first career hit was memorable as it was a two-run single that expanded Towson's lead to 4-0.
  • Wilson closed the scoring in the first inning with a two-run double.
  • Stracher's 36th career homer highlighted Towson's four-run second inning.
  • Stockinger's two-run double was the centerpiece of the Tigers' five run fifth inning.
  • Olivia Baltazar had a sacrifice during the game and Riley Theis walked twice.
  • Kaylen Minnatee and Brook Miko had two hits each for the Tigers.

Inside the Numbers
  • Towson has won 19 straight games against Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) opponents.
  • This was Edwards' 11th career three-hit game.
  • This was Minnatee's first career three-hit outing.
  • For Wilson, this was the second straight game and the fifth of her career with three hits.
  • Going back to last year, Wilson has a five-game hitting streak.
  • This was Stockinger's eighth career game three-hit game.
  • The 19 runs are the tied for the fourth highest single-game total in program history.
