GREENSBORO, N.C. – A pair of critical defensive plays in extra innings and
Kaylen Minnatee's game-winning single helped the Towson University softball team edge Canisius, 3-2, in nine innings in the Spartan Classic Sunday morning at the UNCG Softball Stadium.
Before Minnatee had a chance to deliver her game-winning hit,
Kendyl Scott and
Nicole Stockinger made terrific plays to keep the game tied. Scott made a diving catch of a fast-sinking blooper in centerfield to conclude the eighth inning.
Stockinger, who scored the winning run, threw out the potential go-ahead run with a laser throw to catcher
Riley Thies, who applied the tag, in the ninth inning.
Towson raised its record to 20-4, reaching the 20-win mark for the 21st consecutive season and 26th time in program history.

- Olivia Baltazar, who entered during a one-out bases loaded crisis in the sixth inning, earned the win with 3.2 innings of solid pitching.
- Baltazar struck out two batters and allowed two hits.
- Starting pitcher Melissa Abrahamian retired the first 14 hitters of the game.
- She opened the game by tossing 5.1 hitless innings.
- Trailing 2-0 in the sixth inning, Canisius tied the game with three hits and an a sacrifice fly.
- Hits from Thies, Scott, and Madison Wilson produced a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
- Scott doubled with two outs to score Thies, who was moved into scoring position following Jaclyn Mounie's sacrifice bunt.
