LaMonica Earns Win No. 100, No. 10 Tigers Beat Oregon

TOWSON, Md. - Towson University women's lacrosse senior Emily Gillingham scored four goals while sophomore Sami Chenoweth totaled four caused turnovers to lead the 10th-ranked Tigers to a 15-10 victory over Oregon Monday night at Unitas Stadium.

Towson (7-2) remained unbeaten in five home games this season while giving head coach Sonia LaMonica her 100th career win in nine seasons as a college head coach, including 92 in eight seasons with the Tigers.

How It Happened
  • Towson scored the game's first three goals, including two from Gillingham, to take a 3-0 lead with 23:51 remaining in the first half.
  • Oregon (4-5) answered with its first of the game 1:06 later before freshman Kaitlin Thornton scored at 17:41 to push the Towson lead back to three.
  • The Ducks scored their second goal of the contest 2:00 later before the Tigers ran off the next four-straight.
  • Red-shirt sophomore Maddie Dickman scored her second goal of the season to spark the rally before junior Natalie Sulmonte added back-to-back tallies.
  • Thornton, who was named CAC Co-Rookie of the Week on Monday, found the back of the net for the second time less than one minute later to give Towson an 8-2 lead.
  • Oregon ended a drought of 13 minutes without a goal when Shannon Williams scored with 2:48 to play in the opening half to cut the Tigers' lead to 8-3 at the half.
  • Red-shirt senior Gabby Cha opened the scoring less than seven minutes into the second half off an assist from Dickman with 23:41 to play before Williams scored for the second time, sparking a 5-0 run for the Ducks.
  • Oregon won six consecutive draw controls during its five-goal spurt and got a goal and two assists from Williams to pull within one at 9-8 with 15:37 left in the second half.
  • However, Towson responded by winning four of the next five draw controls while scoring five of the game's six goals to regain control with a five-goal advantage, 14-9, with 5:49 remaining.
  • Gillingham scored twice during that time while Cha added her second of the half and sophomores Annie Sachs and Shelby Stack each scored once.
  • The Ducks added a goal with 5:00 left before Sachs scored again with just 49 seconds to play to provide the final margin.
Inside The Numbers
  • Dickman's goal was her first in the last six games when she tallied one against Michigan at home on February 28.
  • With two points, Dickman posted the first multi-point game in 23 career games.
  • Cha earned the eighth start of her career and first since Apr. 7, 2015 in an 11-5 win at UMBC.
  • Stack tied her career high with two points and has now scored a goal in back-to-back games.
  • For the second-straight game and third time this season, Towson had eight different players score a goal (Michigan, Florida, Oregon).
  • Gillingham extended her goal scoring streak to 17 games and now leads the team with 27 this season. She also moved into sole possession of ninth place on the school's career goals list with 107. Senior Kaitlyn Montalbano is currently in eighth with 113 career goals.
  • Chenoweth tied a career high with four caused turnovers, all of which came in the first half.
  • The Tigers totaled 11 caused turnovers as a team, the sixth time in nine games this season that they have reached double digits.
  • Towson is now 6-1 this season when its scores 10 or more goals and 70-9 in eight seasons under LaMonica.
  • LaMonica is now 100-59 (.629) in nine seasons as a college head coach and 92-50 (.648) in eight seasons at Towson.
  • The Tigers are now 3-0 against Oregon.
