Fast Start Helps Towson Defeat Delaware

TOWSON, Md. – Nicole Stockinger and Megan Dejter combined to help the Towson University softball team defeat Delaware, 5-3, in a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) contest at the Tiger Softball Stadium Sunday.
 
The Tigers captured the weekend series from the Blue Hens by winning two of three games. Stockinger drove in three runs and Dejter tossed her ninth complete game of the season. She ended the game by striking out a Delaware batter looking at a called third strike.
 
Stockinger, Brook Miko and Daria Edwards all made strong defensive plays during the game to help Towson raise its home record to 12-1.

How It Happened
  • Five of Towson's eight hits went for extra bases.
  • Stockinger and Kaylen Minnatee had two hits each to lead Towson.
  • Stockinger hit a two-run homer in the first inning over the centerfield fence to help expand Towson's lead to 3-0.
  • Her homer followed Miko's RBI single to centerfield that scored Kendyl Scott with the first run of the game.
  • Jessica Swistock had a RBI double in the fourth inning to extend the Tigers advantage to 4-0.
  • Stockinger finished Towson's scoring with a RBI double in the fifth inning.
