Towson's 2018-19 SAAC Executive Board Announced

TOWSON, Md. – Women's gymnast Olivia Lubarsky was named the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) president for the 2018-19 school year Towson Deputy Director of Athletics Tricia Turley Brandenburg announced Wednesday.

Also selected as vice presidents of the SAAC Executive Board for the upcoming athletics year were Diondre Wallace (football), Jaina McLean (track and field) and Drew Laundry (men's lacrosse).

The SAAC Executive Board is elected by their fellow SAAC members.

SAAC will be in its fifth year of being organized into three subcommittees (Governance & Student-Athlete Services, Community Service & Events and Communications) that will be led by each of the three vice presidents. The goal is to get the student-athletes on SAAC, as well as the overall student-athlete population, more engaged and involved.

McLean will serve in the role of VP for Governance and Student-Athlete Services, Laundry will oversee Community Service and Events, while Wallace is in charge of Communications. Lubarsky, as president, will also be part of the University's Council of Student Leaders.

Lubarsky will be a junior in the fall. Majoring in business administration, Lubarsky is a two-time East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) All-Scholastic Team member. Lubarsky created the "Own Your Roar" campaign, an awareness program for mental health that encourages students and student-athletes to "Own Your Roar" and advocate for their own mental health.

A criminal justice major, Wallace led Towson with 90 tackles. He forced one fumble, had 1.5 tackles for losses, and four pass breakups. Wallace had a season-high 11 tackles against St. Francis and 10 tackles against Elon.

An exercise science major, McLean ran a personal best time of 11.96 seconds at this year's Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) championship meet. A member of the Tigers 2017 CAA championship team, McLean was second in the 100-meter dash at the TU Invite.

A marketing major, Laundry, who will be a junior, was a member of the 2017 Final Four team. This season, he helped Towson advance to the CAA championship game. He was also a member of the LEaD Tiger program in 2017-18.

"I am excited to welcome our newest class of SAAC officers," Turley Brandenburg said. "Olivia, Diondre, Jaina and Drew have shown tremendous leadership as members of SAAC for the past year, and I'm looking forward to how their leadership will take SAAC to the next level in 2018-19."
