TOWSON, Md. – It's a split weekend for the Towson University women's soccer team as the Tigers face a pair of opponents from the Commonwealth of Virginia.
On Thursday night, the Tigers (0-2-0) reignite a series with Old Dominion University at 7 p.m. from the Monarchs' Soccer Complex. The Tigers open at the Tiger Soccer Complex on Sunday with a 3 p.m. game against the visiting Lancers of Longwood University.

Last Time Out
Last weekend, the Tigers opened the 2018 campaign on the road with a pair of matches in Florida. The Tigers dropped both games by a 2-1 count, falling to USF on Thursday and Stetson on Sunday. The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the season on a Justine Stoner strike from near the corner at USF.
The Series: Old Dominion (7-4-1)
It's been some time since the Tigers and Monarchs squared up in an official game. The last meeting came in the Monarchs' final season in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA), a 3-1 Tiger win on Sept. 28, 2012 at home. Thursday's match will be the first meeting in Norfolk, Virginia since Towson suffered a 2-1 setback on Sept. 25, 2011. The last time these two squads met as non-conference opponents, Towson dropped a 2-1 decision at home. Towson and Old Dominion have never met as non-league foes in Norfolk. The Tigers lead the all-time series at 7-4-1, but have not won in Norfolk since a 1-0 blanking on Oct. 21, 2007.
The Series: Longwood (2-0-0)
Sunday's match will be the third meeting all-time against Longwood and the third location for those games. Towson is 2-0-0 in the sporadic series, winning 5-0 on Sept. 7, 2007 at the Navy Invitational. Last season, the Tigers nipped the Lancers 1-0 in Farmville, Virginia behind a Sarah Quick goal. The since-graduated Maddie Bové handed out the assist in the 66th minute.
Uncommonwealth
This week's matches mark the first time since the 2013 campaign the Tigers will play back-to-back games against opponents from the Commonwealth of Virginia. The last time Towson did that was on Oct. 10 and Oct. 13, 2013 at William & Mary and at James Madison, respectively.
Strike Fast
On Thursday, junior midfielder Justine Stoner chipped a shot to back post in the Tigers' 2018 season opener, scoring the first goal of the season. She was double assisted by Nikki Logan and Lexi Littlefield in the seventh minute. It marked the second-straight season the Tigers scored in the first 10 minutes of the opener after McKenzie McCaull booted home the first marker last season at UMBC in the fourth minute. In an oddity, both games went to overtime.
Sunday Funday!
This Sunday as the Towson Tigers take on visiting Longwood, the athletics marketing department will be running two promotions for the 3 p.m. game.
The first 50 Towson University students to arrive at the game will receive free food and snacks. Additionally, Towson University students will be eligible for a free raffle to win a $100 gift card to the University Store on campus.
