TOWSON, Md. -- After a rain out on Sunday, the Towson University women's soccer team will play three games this week, with the second leg coming up Wednesday afternoon at the Tiger Soccer Complex.
The Tigers, fresh off a 2-1 win over UMBC on Monday, will take on the Mountain Hawks of Lehigh University. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
Weather permitting, there will be a live video feed for the match through the Towson Sports Network.
Last Time Out
Monday night saw the Tigers take a second victory in as many games as Towson surged past host UMBC under the lights at UMBC Stadium. Junior midfielder Justine Stoner added to her team lead in points, scoring a goal and adding the game-winning assist. Senior forward Evelyn Neidert headed home what stood up as the game-winning goal.
The Series: Lehigh (Towson Leads 5-2-0)
Wednesday's match will be the eighth meeting all-time between the Tigers and the Mountain Hawks. Towson leads the series with a 5-2-0 mark, including a 1-0 win last season in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Towson will be looking for back-to-back wins in the series for the first time since reeling off four straight from 1999-2003. Wednesday's clash will be the first meeting in Towson since the Tigers snagged a 1-0 overtime win on Oct. 9, 2003.
Scouting the Tigers (2-5-1)
Towson enters Wednesday's match on a two-game winning streak, besting a pair of local rivals in its last two games. On Monday, Towson topped substitute host UMBC 2-1 behind a three-point night from Justine Stoner. Last week, Towson outlasted Loyola 3-2 in overtime as Jenna Blank scored her first career goal in the 92nd minute. Stoner leads the Tigers with nine points (4g, 1a) while Evelyn Neidert checks in with four points (2g). Five different Tigers have scored this season as Towson has scored nine goals in just eight games. Last season, it took the Tigers 12 games to hit that goal total. In goal, senior Megan Collins has played all 752 minutes this season. She has made 33 saves and dropped her goals against average below 2.00 after Monday's victory, her second-straight road win.
Scouting the Mountain Hawks (3-3-0)
Lehigh concludes its nonconference schedule on Wednesday and enters the match with a split 3-3-0 overall record. The Mountain Hawks are coming off a 2-0 blanking of Temple last week. Lehigh has five different players with a point this season, paced by three points each from Kayla Arestivo (1g, 1a) and Courtney Supp (1g, 1a). The Mountain Hawks have shuffled goalies this year. Miranda Royds has started every game, but played just 298 minutes. Sam Miller has seen 152 minutes of action while Lidia Breen has logged 90 minutes across two games. Royds leads with 11 saves.
Alright, Rook!
After scoring her first career goal in the 92nd minute to get the Tigers a 3-2 win over a local rival, Towson freshman Jenna Blank was named CAA Rookie of the Week on Monday. The Holbrook, New Yorker was selected for the first time in her career.
The Dog Days of Summer
So far in 2018, the Tigers are unbeaten against opponents that use a dog for a mascot, besting Loyola (Greyhounds) and UMBC (Retrievers) for a 2-0-0 mark. Towson will have two more chances to improve on the mark when it plays Northeastern (Huskies) and James Madison (bulldog).
Awaken the Slumbering Tiger
Towson has scored at least once in each of its last three games, including multiple goals in back-to-back games. That marks the first time since the final two games of the 2014 regular season that Towson has scored two or more goals in back-to-back matches.
Greater Baltimore's College Team
Over the last decade, the Tigers have controlled women's soccer in the Greater Baltimore Area. In the last 10 years, Towson has racked up an 8-3-2 overall record against Baltimore foes Loyola and UMBC. Towson has played at least one of the other schools every year dating back to the 2009 campaign.
Quasi Patriot Leaguers
Thursday's game will be the Tigers' second of three matches this season against members of the Patriot League. Last weekend, Towson was edged 1-0 on the road at Bucknell and will square off with Lehigh next week.
