Towson Falls to Temple in Final Seconds

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Sunday's road trip to Philadelphia ended in a loss for the Towson University field hockey team. As time ran out, Temple took the one-point advantage on a penalty stroke to seal the win.

The Tigers fall to 1-7 while the Owls move to 2-6.

How it Happened
  • Towson struck first just 18 minutes into the game as senior co-captain Katie McNeel scored.
  • The Tigers continued to protect the net on defense and held the 1-0 lead into halftime, in the first period freshman goalkeeper Mackenzie Peacock had two saves as Temple took nine shots.
  • In the second half the home team had nine shots again but one finally made it to the back of the net in the 43rd minute to tie the game up.
  • Both teams continued to battle as time was winding down and still tied up. With one minute left the Owls set up for a penalty corner and took a shot.
  • A foul during the shot following the corner granted a penalty stroke for Temple with no time left and Kathryn Edgar made the stroke to the left side to take the win.
Behind the Numbers
  • Towson finished with 10 shots to the Owls' 18 and had six on goal.
  • Peacock grabbed a career-high eight saves.
  • Penalty corners were about even with the Tigers taking 10 and the home team 11, corners have been a help for Towson offensively this season but the one goal today was not scored off a corner.
From the Coach
"We played some beautiful field hockey for 70 minutes," said head coach E.A. Jackson. "There were two tough calls that Temple was able to capitalize on, but our Tigers worked hard. Today we just needed to take care of our opportunities to score. The last time we played Temple it was a 9-0 game, so we've come a long way and will continue to strive towards continuous improvements."

CAA Action to Come
