Tigers Defeat Loyola in Mid-Week Meet

BALTIMORE, Md. – The winning streak continued in the final dual meet of the season for the Towson University men's swimming and diving team as the Tigers defeated Loyola University (Maryland) 157-125 on Wednesday afternoon.

How it Happened

  • Owen Robinson, Ryan O'Leary, Jack Saunderson and Matt Essing won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:32.32.
  • Teammates Zach Bishop, Ben Johnston, Spencer Franklin and Ryan Baldino came in third with a time of 1:35.15.
  • Evan Brophy was victorious in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:38.12). Andrew Snyder finished in fourth with a time of 9:55.98.
  • Ryan Baldino and Evan Lynch had a 1-2 finish in the 200-yard freestyle.
  • The Tigers saw the top four finishes in the 200-yard freestyle. Baldino was in first (1:41.60), then Evan Lynch (1:43.03), Essing (1:44.88) and Spencer Franklin (1:47.08).
  • Baldino also triumphed in the 100-yard freestyle (46.81). Brophy saw a third-place finish (47.38), Hunter Wright was in fourth (48.54) and O'Leary in seventh (50.57).
  • Robinson finished in first place in the 100-yard backstroke (50.99) and Bishop came in second (52.12).
  • O'Leary was successful in the 100-yard breaststroke (58.12). Ben Johnston was in third (58.98), Kenny Afolabi-Brown was in fifth (1:00.68) and Nick Fitzwilliam came in eighth (1:01.98).
  • Saunderson won the 200-yard butterfly (1:46.60). Matt Kenney finished in fourth (1:57.08) and Richard Keller was in fifth (1:59.55).
  • Essing had a victory in the 50-yard freestyle (20.93). Wright finished in third (21.92), Tommy Whitman came in fifth (22.36) and Cody Stewart was in sixth (22.45).
  • Will Canny (277.27) and Devin Gaul (226.50) had a 1-2 finish in the 1-meter diving competition, respectively.
  • Bishop won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:51.63 and Whitman came in fifth (1:58.21).
  • Fitzwilliam came in second place in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:10.93) and Kenny Afolabi-Brown came in third (2:16.95).
  • Lynch also won the 500-yard freestyle (4:41.69). Nick McClure saw fourth place (4:51.66) and Franklin was sixth (4:58.74).


Up Next
The divers will compete in the JMU Diving Invitational on Feb. 2-3 in Harrisonburg, Va., then Towson will compete in the non-conference Taper meet with Virginia Tech and UNC on Feb. 8-10.
