TOWSON, Md. - Sunday afternoon the Towson University field hockey team hosted No. 23 William & Mary in the final game of the season and finished with a final score of 3-1.
Towson was led by freshman
Georgia Beachley who scored the Tigers' only goal in the first period.
How it Happened
- The road team struck first, 1:21 into the game.
- Towson found room to respond, scoring less than six minutes later and tying up the game.
- The Tiger defense held on through shots and penalty corners, including goalkeeper Tess Okkerse with three saves in the first half.
- At the end of the first half the score was even 1-1.
- William & Mary wasted little time on the other side of the halftime break, scoring in the 35th minute and taking a 2-1 lead.
- Towson saw one corner in the third but did not get a shot to the back of the net. In the 41st minute the Tribe tacked on its third of the day.
- The final period was quiet, no corners and a total of three shots, two from William & Mary and one from Towson.
Beyond the Box
- The 3-1 final is an improvement from last year's final against William & Mary of 6-0, a win for the Tribe.
- After her goal today, Georgia Beachley finished the season leading the Tigers with eight goals for her rookie year.
- Fellow freshman Tess Okkerse finished the 2019 year with 116 saves.
- This season Towson has faced three ranked opponents and scored against two of them for the first time since at least the 2011 season.
