Tennis Sees Two Opponents Sunday

TOWSON, Md. – The 2019 season continues this weekend for the Towson University women's tennis team. The Tigers travel to Navy for a 2 p.m. start Sunday before hosting La Salle at the Coppermine Racquet & Fitness facility in Pikesville, Maryland at 7 p.m.
 
Last Time Out
Towson opened the year at Penn State last weekend and fell in a full sweep. Senior Lucy Gloninger posted a win in singles action but fell in the tiebreaker game.
 
Scouting Navy
The Midshipmen are 3-2 on the season and will face three teams this weekend before playing Towson on Sunday. Navy is coming off a split weekend with a loss at Richmond but a win over Maryland 4-3. The Midshipmen have defeated Saint Bonaventure and Saint Francis but started the season with a loss to Penn State.
 
Scouting La Salle
The Explorers haven't started their dual season yet with the first match set for Feb. 2 at Morgan State. La Salle's last action in the fall was at the Saint Joseph's Invitational where the Explorers saw a pair advance to the doubles final of the backdraw and a singles player reach the quarterfinals.
 
Early-Season Home Matches
With winter weather hanging around, the first three home dual matches for Towson will be held off-campus in indoor facilities. This weekend the Tigers are at the Coppermine Racquet & Fitness complex in Pikesville, Md. The Feb. 16 game against Richmond will also be at the Coppermine center in Pikesville. Friday, March 8 Towson hosts Rutgers which will be played at Coppermine Racquet & Fitness on Clarkview Road in Baltimore. The remaining home games will be played on the tennis courts at the Towson Center.
 
National Champions of Service
In the fall 2018 semester the Towson University athletic teams completed the most community service hours among all schools in the NCAA Team Works Helper Helper Competition. Tiger student-athletes and staff completed 5,583 hours of community service from September to November in the Greater Baltimore Area. Towson's national championship in community service will be celebrated at the February 14th men's basketball game against Delaware.
