No. 9 Men's Lacrosse Surges Past No. 16 Georgetown

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Behind a strong second half, the No. 9/No. 7 Towson University men's lacrosse team surged past host No. 16/No. 18 Georgetown Saturday afternoon at Cooper Field.

Towson (3-0) got a nine-point day from senior attackman Brendan Sunday, who finished with four goals and five assists. Senior midfielder logged three goals as junior attacker Brody McLean logged two goals and two assists. Junior goalie Tyler Canto stopped 14 shots while faceoff man and senior Alex Woodall had a 19-of-23 day with 13 ground balls.

Georgetown (2-1) was paced by a three-goal, one assist day from Daniel Bucaro. Jake Carraway contributed two goals as Lucas Wittenberg had three assists. Owen McElroy turned aside 11 of the Tigers' 45 shots.

How it Happened
  • Bucaro scored the game's first goal two and a half minutes in but the Tigers leveled the game at 1-1 after Zach Goodrich scored his third goal of the season.
  • The Hoyas took another lead with 8:07 to play in the first on a Wittenberg feed to Jack Elders. Towson scored back-to-back goals from Casey Wasserman, the first of his career, followed by an extra-man tally from Timmy Monahan with 4:19 on the clock.
  • Starting the second quarter with a 3-2 lead, Towson doubled the Hoyas as Woodall won the first draw and scored seven seconds in. The Hoyas scored two-straight goals from Massimo Bucci and Robert Clark to tie the match for a third time.
  • The Tigers notched back-to-back to end the first half with a 6-4 lead. Brody McLean with 4:12 to go before Jake McLean, no relation, scored 40 seconds later. Sunday assisted on both goals.
  • Georgetown pulled back within one on Bucaro's second of the afternoon with 11:09 to play in the third. Monahan put a two-goal gap back on the board midway through the frame. Georgetown got back within one with 55 seconds to play with Carraway striking on the man-up but Brody McLean scored again with just 13 seconds left to make it 8-6 at the end of the third quarter.
  • After a sloppy first 45 minutes, Towson's offense came to life for the final frame, out-scoring the Hoyas 6-2 in the frame. Sunday scored three of the game's next four goals and accounted for points in five-straight goals.
  • Fromert added the Tigers' penultimate goal for a 13-7 lead on Sunday's eighth assist of the year. The latter scored his final goal of the day with 2:17 to play before Carraway logged the final goal of the afternoon with 32 seconds to play.
