TOWSON, Md. – Towson University split a non-conference doubleheader against Big East opponent Villanova Wednesday afternoon.
The Tigers won the first contest 2-1 before falling 3-2 inside Tiger Softball Stadium.
How It Happened Game 1
- The Tigers took an early 2-0 lead after Julia Jackson reached base on a double and Julia Smith-Harrington homered in the bottom of the first.
- Villanova's Lauren Hanna homered in the top of the seventh to bring the Wildcats within one.
- The Tiger defense held on as pitcher Sara Johnson ended the game with a throw to Ryan Henry that the second baseman caught and throw to first base on two outs.
- Sara Johnson pitched a complete game and had five strikeouts.
How it Happened Game 2
- The Wildcats took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
- Smith-Harrington had her second home run of the evening in the bottom of the first and the Tigers took the lead 2-0.
- Villanova added two more runs in the top of the fifth and took the lead 3-2.
- Melissa Abrahamian pitched five innings and had four strikeouts, while Ashley Cruise pitched two innings with three strikeouts.

Towson will travel to Hempstead, New York for a weekend conference series against Hofstra. The first game of the doubleheader is scheduled to begin Saturday, April 20 inside of Bill Edwards Stadium.
