TOWSON, Md. – Three Towson University athletic teams have been honored with the 2017-18 NCAA Public Recognition Award, combining strong academics and retention rate.
Towson women's cross country, women's gymnastics and women's tennis all were cited for the NCAA Public Recognition Award. All three teams have a perfect 1,000 multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR).
The NCAA Public Recognition Award honors those teams in the top-10% of the multi-year APR. This award is for the combination of the 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18 years for the academic and retention rates. Top-10% varied for different sports anywhere from 987 to 1,000.
"Congratulations to the programs earning Public Recognition Awards for their commitment to academic success," NCAA President Mark Emmert said. "The number of perfect scores this year is an indication that schools and student-athletes are setting high bars for achievement, and we are proud that they are continuing to succeed academically as well as athletically."
All three Towson teams have earned this honor multiple years. This is the 10
th straight year for cross country, the fifth consecutive year for tennis and the third year in a row for gymnastics.
