TOWSON, Md. –The Towson University women's soccer team gets back on the road this week to take on the Georges. First the Tigers will travel to Washington, D.C. to visit the Colonials of George Washington on Thursday, Sept. 12 for a 1 p.m. contest.
Then on Sunday, the Tigers travel to Fairfax, Virginia to face the Patriots of George Mason for a 1 p.m. match.
Last Time Out
Towson fell 2-1 to Bucknell on Sunday, Sept. 8 at the Tiger Soccer Complex.
Lexi Littlefield scored her first goal of the season to tie the game 1-1 in the second half. With ten minutes left in the game the Bison scored the game winning goal.
The Series: George Washington (GW leads 4-2-0)
The Tigers are looking for their first win against the Colonials since 2016. In 2017, they fell 1-0 at the GW Soccer field. In 2016, Towson defeated George Washington 2-0. The first contest between the two teams was Oct. 7, 1992 where Towson fell 4-1. The trend between these two teams is the home team seems to win; Towson is looking to break it.
The Series: George Mason (George Mason leads 11-1-0)
Towson is looking for its first win against the Patriots since 2003 where the Tigers won 1-0. Towson fell to George Mason at home 2-1. The last time Towson played in Fairfax was in 2016 and dropped that contest 3-0.
Scouting the Tigers (2-4-0)
Towson fell to Bucknell 2-1 on Sunday, Sept. 8.

Scouting the Colonials (2-1-1)
After a double overtime period against Maryland, the game ended in a 1-1 tie on Sunday, Sept. 8. Redshirt sophomore Rachel Sorkenn scored at the 76 minute mark for the Colonials. Sorkenn also leads the teams in points (4) and assists (2). Redshirt senior Sofia Pavon has taken seven shots on goal so far this season. Goalkeeper Tamaki Machi has a 1-1-1 record and has 21 saves.
Scouting the Patriots (1-3-1)
George Mason won a 2-0 victory at home on Sunday, Sept. 8 against Binghamton. Juniors Sara Chontosh and Jisca Adigo scored for the Patriots. Sophomore Emma van der Vorst leads the teams in shots with 16, five on goal and three assists. In goal for the Patriots is Morgan Summers, who has a record of 1-2-1 and 14 saves.
In the Community
- The Towson University athletics department deems community service as one of its highest priorities to give back to the Greater Baltimore area.
- For the 7th consecutive year, the department exceeded 10,000 hours of community service to the Greater Baltimore region, finishing with 11,162 hours of community service in the 2018-19 academic season.
- Towson ranked #1 nationally for community service and won the 2018 National Championship for Community Service through the Helper Helper NCAA Team Works Competition.
- Towson had a 97% participation rate, attended 118 community service opportunities and volunteered with 19 organizations.
- Towson won the 2018 Volunteer of the Year Award from Susan G. Komen of Maryland.
