TOWSON, Md. –The Battle of Baltimore series will continue as the Towson University women's soccer team takes on UMBC Thursday afternoon at the renovated Tiger Soccer Complex. The game is scheduled to kickoff at 5 p.m.
 
The game versus UMBC concludes the Battle of Baltimore series. The Tigers also played Mount St. Mary's last Thursday and won 2-0.
 
On Sunday, Towson will host Bucknell in a 3 p.m. contest.
 
For all home contest fans are able to park in lot 19.

Last Time Out
Towson fell to Penn 2-0 Monday afternoon at Rhodes Field in Philadelphia. The Quakers scored the first goal in the first half then a 90 minute weather delay put the game to a halt. Once the second half got going, Penn scored its second goal.
 
The Series: UMBC (Towson leads 9-7-1)
The Tigers will meet local foe UMBC for the 18th time in program history. Last year Towson came out on top defeating the Retrievers 2-1. Other than the tie game in 2017, the Tigers have won the last seven contests. UMBC won the first six matches of the series.
 
The Series: Bucknell (Bucknell leads 6-4-0)
Towson has lost the last three contest to the Bison 1-0. Last season they renewed the series in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. Prior to that the two teams have not seen each other since 2015. This will be the first time Bucknell is playing in Towson since 2013. The Tigers are looking for their win at home against the Bison.
 
Scouting the Tigers (1-3-0)
Towson fell to Penn 2-0 last Monday, Sept.2 on the road and defeated Mount St. Mary's 2-0 last Thursday, Aug. 29 at home. The two goals came from Colonial Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week Demi Pierre. Pierre also leads the team in points (4). Fellow freshman Phoebe Canoles leads the team in shots (11) and is tied for assists (2) and points (2).
 
Scouting the Retrievers (1-1-2)
UMBC also defeated Mount St. Mary's in the Battle of Baltimore series, defeating The Mount 3-0 in Emmitsburg, Maryland. So far this season, the Retrieves have out-shot every opponent they have gone against. Junior Christina Corbi leads the team in shots with 17, sophomore Danielle Fuentes is tied with Corbi for shots on goal (6).
 
Scouting the Bison (1-3-0)
The Bison are on a two-game losing streak after falling to No. 13 Georgetown 2-0 last Sunday, Sept. 1. They also fell to Wright State 1-0 last Thursday. Before the Bison face the Tigers, they take on the Bears of Cornell Friday, Sept. 6 at home. Leading Bucknell is junior forward Jenna Marek with seven shots, three on goal. Junior defender Chloe Christakos leads the team with three points.
 
In the Community
  • The Towson University athletics department deems community service as one of its highest priorities to give back to the Greater Baltimore area.
  • For the 7th consecutive year, the department exceeded 10,000 hours of community service to the Greater Baltimore region, finishing with 11,162 hours of community service in the 2018-19 academic season.
  • Towson ranked #1 nationally for community service and won the 2018 National Championship for Community Service through the Helper Helper NCAA Team Works Competition.
  • Towson had a 97% participation rate, attended 118 community service opportunities and volunteered with 19 organizations.
  • Towson won the 2018 Volunteer of the Year Award from Susan G. Komen of Maryland.
