Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men’s Lacrosse Falls at No. 12 Loyola

BALTIMORE -- Despite a career-best tying night in goal for Shane Brennan, the Towson University men's lacrosse team fell 15-6 at No. 12/No. 11 Loyola Wednesday night at Ridley Athletic Complex.

Towson (0-4) got 16 saves from Brennan, which tied a career best set on March 10, 2018 at No. 13 Ohio State. Austin Stewart posted a career-best three assists while Brody McLean notched two goals and one assist. James Avanzato notched two goals in the contest.

The 12th-ranked Loyola Greyhounds got four goals from Kevin Lindley and another trio from Joey Kamish. Aidan Olmstead led the game with four helpers as Bailey Savio went 14-of-22 at the faceoff X with nine ground balls.

How it Happened
  • Loyola jumped out to a 1-0 lead as Dan Wigley converted on the crease on an Olmstead feed. Both defenses held firm before the Greyhounds took a 2-0 lead on a Lindley goal, again on the crease, from Olmstead at 6:22.
  • The Greyhounds extended the lead to 3-0 on a marker from Peter Swindell but Towson got one back late in the frame as McLean notched his fifth of the year on a feed over the top from Stewart.
  • Entering the second quarter, Loyola got back-to-back goals to push its lead out to 5-1 on an extra-man goal from Swindell and a marker at 11:25 of the period from Kamish.
  • Towson got the final two goals of the first half to make it a two-goal affair as Greg Ey buried his second in as many games with Tim Montgomery on the feed. Towson then found a weakness in the Greyhounds' man-down unit as Avanzato scored a toe-tapping goal on the crease. It was the first extra-man goal Loyola allowed this season.
  • The Tigers trailed 5-3 through the first 30 minutes of the 63rd meeting all-time between the programs.
  • Lindley scored his second of the night less than 90 seconds into the third quarter before the Tigers got another set of back-to-back goals, this time from Fromert and McLean. Fromert picked up a loose ball on the crease and buried it while McLean got a dish from Stewart.
  • The Greyhounds scored the final two goals of the third period for an 8-5 lead as Lindley scored in a broken clear situation before Kamish's second of the night with just over a minute remaining in the period.
  • Loyola scored five straight in the first six minutes of the fourth quarter, taking advantage of broken clears and a two-minute non-releasable penalty against the Tiger bench. Olmstead, Kamish and Lindley scored in succession while Evan James scored two man-up goals.
  • The Greyhounds extended that run on a transition goal with 5:05 to play on Jack Raba's first of the season. Riley Cox scored Loyola's final goal of the game with 2:26 to play before Avanzato got his second of the night to cap the night's scoring for a 15-6 final.
Behind the Numbers
  • Brennan led the game with 16 saves, including 11 in the second half. Sam Shafer got the win for Loyola with 55 minutes in goal, making nine saves. Colton Teitelbaum had one save in five minutes of work.
  • The Greyhounds took 51 shots, the first team to surpass 50 shots against Towson since Drexel had 54 during the regular season last year.
  • Towson went one-for-one on the extra-man with Avanzato potting the goal. Loyola scored four times on the man-advantage with six qualifying chances.
  • The home team has won each of the last three games between the Tigers and the Greyhounds.
