MIAMI – A Towson University baseball team ninth-inning rally came up short as the Tigers fell in the Saturday contest to No. 7 Miami 8-2.
Towson (2-6) faced an early deficit as Miami (6-3) scored a combined seven runs in the opening two innings. The Tigers looked to rally, putting runners into scoring position in four innings. Towson got a pair of runs across in the ninth on a
Matt Arceo RBI ground out and a
Javon Fields RBI single, but the Tigers could not get closer.

- Two Tigers earn multi-hit performances: Javon Fields reached base three times in a 2-for-4 night, earning an RBI, while Colin Conroy also got on base three times, going 2-for-4 with a walk.
- On the mound, the loss went to Nick Ramanjulu (1-2) with 5.2 innings pitched, having eight runs charged, just five earned, with two strikeouts. Matt Watters came in relief and threw two-and-a-third scoreless, striking out three.
- Miami hit two home runs in the game, a two-run by Alex Toral in the first and a three-run by Anthony Vilar in the second. Starter Chris McMahon (2-0) picked up the victory, throwing 6.2 scoreless innings and striking out 12.
How it Happened:
- Miami scored four runs in the opening inning, taking advantage of two fielding errors and a two-run home run by Alex Toral. The home team added a three-run home run in the next inning by Anthony Vilar, to lead 7-0 after two.
- Towson threatened in the top of the third, putting the bases loaded after a two-out bunt single by Matt Arceo, but a ground out finished the inning without a run.
- Nick Ramanjulu recovered and earned 1-2-3 innings the next three frames. The Tigers again got a pair of two-out runners off a Javon Fields single and a Brad Powers walk, but they were stranded after a flyout.
- Miami added back a run in the bottom of the sixth off an RBI walk to make it 8-0 Hurricanes.
- With Matt Watters holding the fort in relief, Towson attempted a final rally in the top of the ninth. Hits from Nick Brown, Nick Tiano and Colin Conroy loaded the bases with one out. Arceo brought in a run on a ground out, then Fields beat out a throw to first for an RBI single. Towson could not complete the rally after a pop out and fell 8-2.
