HOW IT HAPPENED
- Just 3:37 into the contest, Drexel was able to sneak a ball past goalkeeper Lena Vandam through traffic to take the early 1-0 lead.
- Halfway through the first quarter, Towson followed up with a great look in front of the Dragons' goal, but it couldn't be handled.
- Drexel extended its lead after converting on its second penalty corner of the first 15:00. The ball deflected off the initial hit to go way over Vandam's head and hit the netting.
- Just 1:36 later, the Dragons scored their third goal of the quarter, taking advantage after Vandam came off her line to bat away a loose ball.
- The second quarter started with the two teams trading possessions. Vandam defended a shot early to register her second save of the day.
- In the 21st minute, Florenzo cut into Drexel's lead with her first goal of the season. The score was unassisted.
- The Dragon's then put the pressure on, challenging the Tiger's back line and generating offensive chances. The Towson defense only allowed one shot from the opposition.
- To start the second half, Vandam came out from behind her line to deflect a pair of shots. Drexel got an early corner attempt but hit it off the post.
- Despite the deficit, Vandam continued her usual aggressive play in the circle. The graduate student came out of her net to hit away two shots on the baseline, about halfway through the third. She proceeded to bat away the Dragon's fourth corner of the contest.
- The Towson offense tried to create some opportunities but was shutdown by a strong Drexel defensive unit.
- Hannah McKeon came up with several key stops throughout the game, including a big one-on-one stop in the backfield to keep the opposition in check.
- The Tigers got a good look with just over 10 minutes to go, as Georgia Beachley put a feed from Gianna Antone just wide of the net. Antone followed up with another exception pass to Kathryn Parkinson, but the shot was saves.
- The Tigers got their first penalty corner attempt of the contest, but it was to no avail as Kasey Bubel was called for a dangerous follow-through. The Tigers got one more corner in the final period, but couldn't convert.
- Towson kept up the aggressive play up until the final moments of the contest, but could not get back on the board.
