TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's soccer team battled with William & Mary all Sunday afternoon, breaking through in the last 13 minutes with three goals to earn a 3-0 victory in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) home opener.
Nia Christopher earned two goals in a span of three minutes to push Towson (6-3-2, 1-1 CAA) ahead in the 78
th minute, then adding insurance in the 81
st minute.
Khori Banks notched a goal in minute 87 to seal the victory against William & Mary (3-6, 1-1 CAA).
Key Stats:
- In a near even game most of the way, W&M outshot Towson 13-10, putting seven shots on goal to Towson's five. Riley Melendez (6-3-2) saved all seven W&M shots on goal, earning her fourth shutout of the year and fifth for Towson this season.
- Nia Christopher's goals in the 78th and 81st minutes give her 11 total on the year, tying her for the CAA lead with Hofstra's Miri Taylor. She scored on both shots on goal, having three total shots. Khori Banks had her third goal of the year off four total shots.
- Jasmine Hamid earned two assists on the game, finding the first goals for Christopher and Banks, also having three shots. Jenna Blank assisted Christopher's second goal to get a point.

How It Happened:
- W&M pushed early in the game, with Addie Puskar having an early shot. Riley Melendez made the save towards the middle of the net.
- The visitors made another push in minute 12 as Elaina Longjohn and Kayleigh Shackford each had chances on net, with Melendez saving both to hold the stalemate. A resulting corner was cleared away by Towson.
- After much back-and-forth play in the midfield, Jasmine Hamid nearly put Towson on the board with a shot that slammed the crossbar and went out of play in the 23rd minute. Khori Banks subbed on and got two chances minutes later, sending each shot just wide.
- Towson had late attempts in the first half off corner kicks, but could not get a shot off. The two sides were scoreless at the break.
- Hamid had the first chance of the second half in the 51st minute with a long shot, being saved by Grace Lemley. The resulting corner kick did not result in a shot.
- The action picked up as a high shot from Nia Christopher was followed soon after by a Longjohn shot that was stopped by Melendez. In minute 62, another attempt by Longjohn was saved by Melendez.
- W&M got a cross into the box in the 74th minute and attempt a first touch shot by Mia Suchora, that was blocked by Phoebe Canoles. Minutes later, Towson countered after a W&M offside. Hamid found Christopher on the run, who buried the shot inside the middle for the Towson goal in the 78th minute to make it 1-0 Tigers.
- Minutes later as W&M tried to move forward, another Towson counterattack paid off as Christopher and Jenna Blank passed back and forth near the box. Blank's final pass to Christopher resulted in a shot and score for a 2-0 Towson lead in the 81st minute.
- W&M made several substitutions to attempt to get fresh players on the field, with another Longjohn shot being saved by Melendez. Towson countered again as Hamid led the way, finding Banks for the left-to-right shot and score. Towson took the victory 3-0.

- Nia Christopher now stands fourth in Towson single season history with 11 goals. The Towson record is 15 by Emily Banes in 2013. It is also Christopher's fourth multi-goal game of the season.
- Riley Melendez has seven career shutouts in 19 career games.
- Towson has won its last three home games and is undefeated in its last four games. The Tigers have not allowed a goal at home in the last seven halves of play.
