RECORDS

Towson (4-13, 1-5)

Davidson (4-14, 2-5)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The game started off quietly, as Towson and Davidson traded possessions in the first quarter. Each team took three shots and attempted penalty corners.
  • The Wildcats struck first with a goal just before the 20th minute of play. About 4:00 later, Davidson extended its lead, 2-0. Despite the lead, Towson kept its energy up and continued to flip field position.
  • In the 27th minute, the Tigers answered with a goal from McKeon on their third corner of the game. The Wildcats still held the 2-1 lead at end of the first half.
  • Just under four minutes into the restart, a penalty stoke was awarded after Sarah Hatfield chased after a ball in Davidson's defensive end and ended up on the ground. Beachley converted on the stroke to tie the contest at 2-2.
  • The celebration was short-lived as the Wildcats followed up with a goal to retake the 3-2 lead.
  • To end the third, Towson kept the pressure on and the teams exchanged corners.
  • 5:22 into the final quarter, Beachley found the back of the net for her second goal of the game with help from Antone. The score once again tied the game at 3-3.
  • The rest of the period was uneventful as Davidson put a shot wide to end regulation.
  • The Wildcats controlled the first 10:00 overtime period, attempting a corner and three shots. The Tigers snuck in their own corner and shot, but neither offense could find the goal.
  • Towson took the reins in the second overtime, attempting a game-high eight shots. The black & gold also took three corners in the final moments but could not get past the Davidson keeper.
  • After no score in the two overtime periods, the contest went into a shootout. Davidson took the first shot which was stopped by Vandam. McKeon converted on the first stroke followed by another Vandam save. Ho gave Towson the edge as she found her way past the Wildcats goalkeeper.
  • However, Izzy Moody of Davidson also found the back of the net to get by Vandam. It was the freshman Maddie Dalton who scored the ultimate game-winning goal as Vandam stopped the final attempt to give the Tigers the dramatic victory.

BEYOND THE BOX

  • With two goals during Sunday's contest, Beachley ends the season with five scores. The junior also boasts a team-best three assists for 13 points. This was her first multi-goal game of the fall.
  • Towson out shot Davidson 21-16, putting 13 shots on goal. The advantage marks just the second time the Tigers have led their opposition in shots during the fall campaign. McKeon led the eight players who took shots with nine attempts and eight on frame.
  • This is the first shootout the Tigers have won since the overtime procedure was implemented by the NCAA in the early 2000's.
  • Through 17 contests, Vandam ended her collegiate career atop the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) with 163 saves, 9.59 stops per game and a .780 save percentage.
