TOWSON, Md. — Despite an early goal from Kathryn Parkinson, the Towson University Field Hockey team was bested by Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) foe James Madison on Friday afternoon, 4-1.
An early goal from the Dukes' was answered by Parkinson in the first quarter to keep the contest tied going into halftime. JMU then scored three second half goals to solidify the victory and improve to a perfect 3-0 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- James Madison came out hungry, getting its first shot off :30 into the contest. They followed up with two consecutive penalty corners and converted on the second one just 1:28 in.
- Towson answered with its own corner for a score as Parkinson found the back of the net for her first goal of the fall. Hannah McKeon originally took the shot off the corner before Parkinson snuck it past goalkeeper Florien Marcussen to knot the game at 1-1.
- Both teams traded shots and corners to end the first 15:00.
- The second period was relatively quiet, as the Tigers fended off two corners and three shots early. The black & gold ended the half with a corner of their own to no avail. Goalkeeper Lena Vandam ended the opening half with seven saves.
- Just over 3:00 into the third period, JMU found the back of the net to break the tie and take the 2-1 edge. The opposition kept the pressure on for the rest of the half, generating one corner and three shots to end the quarter.
- Paige Reese got one shot off for Towson in the third, as well.
- In the fourth quarter, the Dukes picked up where they left off, keeping the ball in the Tigers' defensive zone. JMU took a game-high seven shots in the final quarter in addition to three corners.
- Within just one minute, James Madison secured two goals to take the 4-1 advantage with less than seven minutes to go in the contest.
- Gianna Antone got one last shot off but couldn't get Towson back on the board.
BEYOND THE BOX
- Parkinson's goal accounted for her first of the fall and fifth of her career.
- With the senior's goal in the fourth minute of play, Towson has now scored six of its nine goals this season in the first period.
- Vandam ended the day with 14 saves which marks her second highest performance this season. The graduate student stopped a conference-high 21 shots against Virginia (9/5/21).
- James Madison out-shot Towson 22 to six. The Tigers did put four of their six shots on frame.
- Three of JMU's four goals came off penalty corners. The team took a total on 11 corner attempts on Friday afternoon.
- The Dukes were assessed two green cards, both coming in the third quarter.
