How It Happened:
  • In the early going, Towson's three-point shooting helped get some distance.  Cam Holden and Nicolas Timberlake buried threes on the wings to get Towson a 10-4 advantage just over three minutes in.
  • Hampton's own three-point shots from Marquis Godwin got the visitors back to a tie a few minutes later.  The teams went back-and-forth for the next couple of minutes when at 16-14, a couple of Terry Nolan Jr. free throws then a pass-and-layup to Chris Biekeu pushed owson's lead to 20-14 10 minutes in.
  • Towson kept the lead by a couple of possessions with free throws and close-range shots, taking advantage of multiple foul calls.  At 28-22, Towson scored on the next three possessions, a Charles Thompson layup, a Timberlake dunk off a steal then a Nolan driving layup pushed Towson's lead to 12.  Hampton got to within 10 as Towson led 35-25 at the break.
  • Out of the break, Timberlake knocked down a wing three, then a Thompson hook shot built Towson's lead to 14.  Hampton pushed back, including a Rio Haskett kickout three and a couple of free throws, to pull within seven at 42-35 four minutes into the second.
  • Jason Gibson came off the bench and provided a big offensive spark for Towson, going on a personal 7-0 run, including a deep three off a break from a defensive rebound.  After Hampton scored to stop the run, Gibson added two more free throws.  The new run continued with more free throws then a Nolan three from the corner as Towson had a 59-37 advantage midway through the half.
  • Towson stopped Hampton from going on a long run, keeping its lead strong with more free throws.  With the Pirates pulling to within 20, free throws from Gibson and Chase Paar put the lead back to 24.
