Defense Powers No. 1 Towson Past No. 4 Delaware Into Finals

TOWSON, Md. -- Behind 13 blocks, the top-seeded Towson University women's volleyball team powered past No. 4 University of Delaware in straight sets of the semifinal round of the CAA Women's Volleyball Championship Presented by Primis.

The Tigers (25-4) won their 16th match of the season at SECU Arena, setting a building record for single-season wins. Towson landed 13 blocks, including nine from Lydia Wiers to limit Delaware to a -0.026 hitting percentage. 

Towson reaches the Championship Match of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) tournament for a third-straight season, winning its last four CAA Tournament matches in sweeps. 

Nina Cajic scored seven kills on 22 swings with just two errors, while Emily Jarome and Fay Bakodimou scored six and five kills apiece. Bakodimou led Towson with 10 digs. Kristin Spengler posted 15 assists with Megan Wilson scoring 13.

From the CAA
The Tiger seized momentum at the end of the first set and continued to improve throughout the match. 
 
Towson used a 7-1 run late in the first set to pull away and claim set one by a score of 25-18. After the teams went point-for-point to eight, the Tigers separated themselves with a 5-2 run, taking a 13-10 lead. Delaware battled back a few points later with a 3-0 run to tie the game at 16 before Towson flipped the switch and took command of the set. 
 
The Tigers used the momentum from the first set to jump out to a 5-1 advantage in set number two. Towson never trailed in the set, reaching its largest lead after taking a 13-4 lead. After that point, the Tigers never led by less than five points, winning the set 25-19 to go up two sets to none in the match. 
 
Towson continued its impressive performance in the third set. After Delaware took a 5-4 lead, the Tigers went on an 8-2 to regain control, flipping the advantage to 12-7 in their favor. Later on, Towson went on a 7-1 run to increase its lead to 20-12, and the Tigers cruised to the finish winning the set 25-15. 
 
Nina Cajic paced Towson with seven kills, while Emily Jarome added six kills and six digs. Fay Bakodimou and Irbe Lazda contributed five kills, with Bakodimou picking up 10 digs and two service aces. Lydia Wiers added a match-high nine kills, helping Towson out block Delaware 13-6 in the contest. 
 
Lani Mason and Savannah Seemans led the way for Delaware as Mason posted a match-high nine kills and Seemans added eight kills with nine digs. 
 
Towson hit .224 in the contest, while the Blue Hens posted a negative hitting percentage (-0.026).
