TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team got to open at home sooner than expected in a mid-week game vs. Saint Joseph's, but fell to the visiting team 12-3.
Towson (1-10) was the victim of six home runs by Saint Joseph's (1-0), with a late eighth inning Tiger rally adding two runs.
Key Stats:
- Danny Becerra hit 2-for-4 with a walk, run and stolen base from the leadoff position while Billy Godrick hit 2-for-5. In his Towson debut, Bryce Frederick hit safely in his lone at bat with an RBI single while Matt Arceo had an RBI double is his only at-bat.
- On the pitching end, Nick Ramanjulu (0-3) got the loss with three innings thrown, having five runs and three strikeouts. Pete Marchineck, Kody Reeser and Jake Pecilunas had scoreless outings from the bullpen.
- For Saint Joseph's, Luca Trigiani hit two home runs, going 2-for-4 with three runs and five RBI. Starting pitcher Noah Weber (1-0) got the win, throwing three innings with one run.
How It Happened:
- In the top of the first, with two on and two out, Nate Thomas hit a home run to right to put Saint Joseph's on the board 3-0.
- Towson got a run back in the bottom half of the frame, getting two on the corners with no out. Noah Cabrera reached on a fielder's choice to third, bringing in Danny Becerra and making it 3-1.
- The Hawks got another home run in the second, a two-run shot by Luca Trigiani to left, to lead 5-1. The Towson pitchers held down the Hawks through the third and fourth, but another home run, a three-run shot to left by Trigiani, then three more dingers in the seventh to lead 12-1.
- With one away in the eighth, Towson got its bats going beginning with Brandon Austin singling to left and going to second on a wild pitch. Bryce Frederick roped a single to right, scoring Austin and taking second on a throwing error. Matt Arceo proceeded to belt a pitch to the right-center gap, bringing in Frederick on the double to make the score 12-3. Towson held off the Hawks in the ninth but could not come back, falling 12-3.
Inside the Numbers:
- Brandon Austin increased his bases reached streak to 18 games dating back to later season while Danny Becerra has reached base in all 11 games this year.
- Becerra earned his fifth multi-hit game of the season while Billy Godrick picked up his third.

Towson hits the road again this weekend for a three-game series at VCU. First game set for 6:30 p.m. on Friday, March 12.
