Career Days from Pearre & Marshall Lift #12/#11 Towson Women’s Lacrosse over Georgetown

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The #12/#11 Towson women's lacrosse team snapped a two-game losing streak by beating Georgetown, 17-14, at Cooper Field on Saturday afternoon. Blair Pearre and Lindsey Marshall each scored career-best five goals in the victory.

Pearre, who was named to the Tewaaraton Watch List on Thursday, added an assist, won three draw controls, picked up two groundballs and caused two turnovers. She went three-for-four in free-position chances this afternoon. The sophomore from McDonogh has now scored at least two goals in 12 of 13 games at the collegiate level. The former Under Armour All-American has seven career hat tricks. She leads Towson in goals (20), points (23), tied for first in groundballs (12) and ranks second in draw controls (21).

"Blair had a huge impact," Towson head coach Sonia LaMonica said. "She did what she does so well, which is create the 8-meter opportunities and then finish those opportunities. She had a minor injury so we played her on attack today where she was involved in every offensive possession."

Freshman sensation Marshall set career numbers in both goals and draw controls (8). She now has four hat tricks on the season and ranks second on the team in goals (17). The Catonsville product tops the Tigers with 32 draw controls.

"She is continuing to learn and looking to better her game every day and that is what you want as a coach," added LaMonica added. "She had huge impact on the draws today. It was a chess match and she won some big draws today."

Kerri Thornton (2g, 1a), Molly Lynch (2g, 1a) and Nikki Sliwak (1g, 2a) also had multiple point games. On the defensive side, junior Erin Williams caused a career-best four turnovers and had a season-high three groundballs.

"Erin had a tremendous game. She is just so quick and athletic," LaMonica said. "She made big plays in big moments. She continues to put her head down and working hard."

Pearre scored three times and Marshall added two goals in the first half as the Tigers built a 7-3 advantage.

The second half featured runs from both teams. After Georgetown scored two goals in the first 45 seconds to cut the lead to 7-5, Towson scored three of the next four, including two by Kerri Thornton, and led 10-6 with 21:04 remaining.

The Hoyas scored five straight goals in less than five and a half minutes to take a 11-10 lead. Pearre tied it up, but Georgetown went up 12-11 with 11:13 left.

The Tigers stormed back, scoring five unanswered goals in less than five minutes to regain control. During that run, Marshall had a pair, while Pearre, Lynch and Kaitlin Thornton also tallied.

Towson leads the all-time series with Georgetown, 14-11 and has won 6-of-8 games since the series was renewed in 2013.

The Tigers opened the season with wins over Mount St. Mary's (10-7), UMBC (12-5), then #8/#10 Loyola (13-7) and George Mason (18-4). After dropping a hard-fought 10-8 decision to then #5/#8 Stony Brook last Sunday, the Tigers lost to Temple, 12-8, on Wednesday.
