BOSTON, Mass. – For the first time since 2011, the Towson University field hockey team defeated Northeastern 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at Dedhman Field. The victory also marks the Tigers' win in program history while playing at Northeastern.
After an early goal by Mak Graves of the Huskies, Georgia Beachley converted on a penalty stroke to tie the game at 1-1 in the first quarter. The contest would stay knotted at one until the fourth quarter with goals from Jenna Florenzo and Paige Reese to give the Tigers the 3-1 victory.
In goal, Lena Vandam earned four saves to bring her save percentage to .735.
"It was a hard fought, well played game," Head Coach E.A. Jackson said. "We were determined to finish the job on our first road trip in over 500 days. The players all did their jobs, they took personal responsibility and took care of their business on and off the field. They relished the opportunity to play. They were prepared for today. They were creative on the field, they trusted each other, and they showed up with a firm resolve to walk off with a win."
"We are so thankful for the opportunity to play this spring and recognize the efforts of the entire staff in athletics to support us in our mission to play and compete, Jackson added. "This trip would not be possible without the thankless behind the scenes efforts of sports medicine, facilities, equipment, strength and conditioning and academic support staff."
