TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's soccer team challenged one of the typical powers of the Colonial Athletic Association and pushed Northeastern to overtime, but fell in the 99
th minute 1-0.
Towson (1-3-2, 0-2 CAA) had strong chances and rallied in the second half, but Northeastern (4-3-1, 2-1 CAA) held and won in the final minute of the first overtime.
Key Stats:
- Towson outshot Northeastern in the game 13-11 and had four corner kicks to Northeastern's two. Each side had four saves.
- Maja Hansson led Towson in shots with four while Camryn Anderson, Jenna Blank and Alexandra Rush all had two. Riley Melendez had the loss in goal despite four saves.
- Northeastern won on a goal from Kayla McCauley, assisted by Chelsea Domond. Angeline Friel won the game in goal with three saves in the shutout.

Katherine Vettori: "I'm really proud of the performance tonight. We stayed very organized defensively and possessed the ball well. Northeastern is a great team and traditionally towards the top of the league; last time we played them we lost 6-0. To get into overtime and have significant chances, I'm proud of the way we played and the heart we showed tonight."
How It Happened:
- Towson was the early aggressive team, putting a couple free kicks into the box. In the sixth minute, Demi Pierre crossed a ball towards the center with Riley Rumbley taking a shot wide.
- Alexandra Rush had a good luck in the 11th minute and pulled the keeper away, but missed on a shot left.
- Northeastern put a barrage of shots on Towson in 14th minute on a counterattack. Riley Melendez saved two shots, including one on a dive towards the right post, to hold the score at 0-0.
- For a while, each side tried to set up crosses to the box, with neither side connecting. Towson nearly got a chance in the final minute of the first half as a Phoebe Canoles corner kick found the head of Maja Hansson, with the attempt going wide. The score was tied 0-0 at half.
- Towson came out with a full head of steam to begin the second half to pressure Northeastern. Minute 52 saw Rush fire a corner kick as Khori Banks aimed a header towards the post, with Angeline Friel making the save.
- Minutes later, the Tigers set up Jenna Blank for a long range shot towards the post, with the ground ball shot being saved.
- Towson kept on the attack as in the 60th minute, Camryn Anderson got a header towards the cage, missing wide.
- In minute 67, Pierre ran down the side and found Rush for an attempt, with NU again making the save.
- Nia Christopher made a move on the left side of the box to pull off the goalie, passing off to Blank for a shot. Blank's shot went towards the right post where an NU defender made the save to helper her keeper.
- The Huskies got counterattacks in the later minutes, nearly getting a goal in the 80th minute. A cross attempt Tatiana Ortega came close to the goal line, with Melendez falling on the ball before a nearby-forward had a chance to score. The game would go into overtime.
- Despite some aggressive play in the extra period, neither side got any shots off in the first nine minutes. In the final minute, Chelsea Dormond got near the end line and passed off to Kayla McCauley. McCauley hit an arcing shot and scored inside the left post for the 1-0 Northeastern victory.

- Towson has outshot its opponents in its last four games and 89-73 total on the season.
