HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – With the challenge of facing the league's remaining undefeated team, the Towson University women's soccer team fell to Hofstra 7-2 in Hempstead to complete the 2021 spring season.
Towson (2-4-2, 1-3 CAA) got within two early in the second half off the first goal of the season by
Camryn Anderson. Hofstra (7-0-1, 3-0-1 CAA) held the advantage and took the win.
Towson concludes the 2021 spring season. Until today's game, Towson had not allowed a goal in regulation to a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) opponent.
Key Stats:
- Anderson's goal came in the 53rd minute off a free kick from Phoebe Canoles to pull Towson within two. Towson's first score came on a Hofstra own goal in the 29th minute. Khori Banks led all Tigers with three shots. Riley Melendez had the loss in goal with one save.
- For Hofstra, Lucy Porter led all players with three goals off six shots. Skylar Kuzmich got the win, allowing two goals with no saves in 78:56 of play.
How It Happened:
- Hofstra scored on its first attempt on a cross to Lucy Porter for a goal in the opening minute.
- In minute 14, Towson had its first opportunity as Khori Banks took aim for the goal, missing right. A counterattack by Hofstra ended in a Melendez save.
- Towson had a chance in the 24th minute as Demi Pierre got close and kicked towards goal, being blocked. A second chance by her was saved by the team and sent away.
- As Hofstra was trying to clear away the ball, the Pride kicked the ball into its own net to even the score at 1-1 in the 29th minute.
- Towson held off a couple of Hofstra attempts in the following minutes until in minute 37, Porter, on the second touch off a corner, scored to give Hofstra a 2-1 lead, the eventual halftime score.
- Into the second half, Hofstra scored twice in the first seven minutes to lead 4-1.
- Minute 53 saw Phoebe Canoles line up for a free kick. Camryn Anderson took the shot close range and scored, bringing Towson within two at 4-2.
- Hofstra got the goal back in the next minute. Towson threatened with a corner kick in the 74th minute, but could not get a shot off.
- The Pride added two more goals in the final nine minutes and won 7-2.
Inside the Numbers:
- Hofstra's first goal in the opening minute was Towson's first goal allowed in regulation to a CAA opponent. Towson held JMU, Drexel, Northeastern and Delaware without a regulation goal.
