Field Hockey Falls to Drexel on Senior Day

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University field hockey team fell to Drexel 1-0 in its final regular season game of the season.  

In goal, Lena Vandam tied her season high of 13 saves on 22 shots.  

Emily Owens' scored the game-winning goal for the Dragons.  

The Tigers also celebrated Senior Day with both pregame and post game ceremonies.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • The contest got off to a quiet start. Vandam totaled three saves at the end of the 15:00 and Kasey Bubel was given a green card that ran into the second quarter.  
  • In the second, the Tigers successfully defended three penalty corners. Samantha Aljets got one shot off.  
  • Towson defended the first penalty corner by Drexel in the third quarter but were not so lucky on the second. Owens scored off a deflected shot from Thewessen Puk to give the Dragons the 1-0 edge.  
  • The Tigers earned their first penalty corner attempt in the 38th minute. They also had six shots in the third.  
  • Eline Di Leva was given a green card with no time left on the clock in the third quarter.  
  • Kaiya Townsend Sabur and Liz Chipman were both given yellow cards just minutes apart to start the fourth quarter.  
  • Towson had two more penalty corners in the fourth to no avail.  
  • To end the game, Drexel had two more penalty corner attempts and eight shots in the final 10:00 of action.  

BEYOND THE BOX 

  • Elizabeth Harper (1), Beira Ho (1), Aljets (1), Jenna Florenzo (1) and Paige Reese (2) all had shots on-frame.  
  • Vandam's 13 saves earned her highest save percentage of the season, .929. Drexel's goalkeeper Megan Hadfield made six saves.  
  • Vandam tied her season high and the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) best of 13 saves. She had previously registered 13 saves against James Madison (April 7). 
  • During her graduate transfer year, Vandam has played every second of the regular season in goal for the Tigers. 
  • Each team was awarded one green card and one yellow card each, respectively.  
  • The Tigers got off 10 shots total to the Dragons' 22.  
  • Drexel has seven penalty corners and converted on one. Towson had three penalty corner attempts.  
NEXT GAME

Towson will now await their postseason fate in the conference tournament. The top four seeded teams will travel to Delaware April 22 through April 24 to compete for the championship.
