Towson Baseball Falls in CAA Opener vs. Delaware

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team fell in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) opener vs. Delaware 12-0 on Friday afternoon.
 
Towson (7-17, 0-1 CAA) had won three of its last four games before today's defeat vs. Delaware (4-5, 1-0 CAA).
 
Key Stats:
  • The first three Towson batters in the order hit safely in the game.  Danny Becerra went 1-for-4 with a double while each Billy Godrick and Nolan Young also went 1-for-4.
  • Starter Josh Seils (2-4) got the loss, going five innings with seven runs, three earned, and six strikeouts. Pete Marchineck and Justin Rebok each had scoreless relief outings.
  • For the Blue Hens, Justin Carpenter had a three-run home run in a 2-for-6 day, scoring twice.  Starter Chris Ludman (2-3) won the game, throwing eight innings with no runs and nine strikeouts.
How It Happened:
  • Delaware got on the board first in the second inning, taking advantage of a throwing error to score the first run.  Later, a Jordan Hutchens RBI single made it 2-0 Blue Hens.
  • Later in the top of the fourth, Delaware used three hits, two free passes and an error to score four runs.  The Blue Hens added another in the fifth, then a Joseph Carpenter three-run home run in the sixth, to go up 10-0.
  • Towson threatened with a Danny Becerra double to get a runner to scoring position, but could not cut into the deficit.  Delaware added two more in the eighth as Towson fell 12-0.

Towson returns to Schuerholz tomorrow to play an 11 a.m. doubleheader vs. Delaware.
