TOWSON, Md. — The Towson University department of Athletics has announced its new Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Executive Board for the 2021-22 academic year.
Brendan Farrar (men's swimming & diving) was selected as the SAAC President for the upcoming year. He will be joined by three vice presidents. Jeff Miller (football) will serve as the vice president for community service, Nicole Kidwiler (softball) was named vice president for communications and Burke Camper (baseball) will be the vice president for governance & student-athlete services.
In addition, three assistant vice presidents were appointed. Bre McDowell (softball) was tapped as the assistant vice president for community service, Meagan Clark (women's swimming & diving) will be the assistant vice president for communications and Ryna Deltuva (women's lacrosse) was named the assistant vice president for governance & student-athlete services.
Asia Goins (volleyball) will serve in a special roll as Towson's NCAA/CAA SAAC Representative. Earlier this month she was selected to the NCAA Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, becoming the first Tiger to do so since the 2013-14 academic year.
Towson's SAAC was developed for the following purposes:
-
To streamline and promote efficient and effective communication between the Department of Athletics administration and the student-athlete population
-
To design and implement programs that encourages academic achievement, health promotion, social responsibility and general life skills awareness
-
To actively encourage more student-athlete involvement in campus and community outreach programs.
-
To promote "togetherness" and support for all varsity teams by encouraging attendance at the athletic competitions of fellow student-athletes.
Student-athlete representatives are elected by their teams or appointed by the head coach. Representatives have considerable autonomy with regard to the direction they wish to take the organization. SAAC representatives promote interaction of fellow student-athletes and are committed to becoming a positive force on the Towson University campus and in the community. Monthly meetings are open to all student-athletes.
