Men’s Basketball Announces Captains for 2022-23 Season

TOWSON, Md. – Towson University men's basketball head coach Pat Skerry has named the captains for the 2022-23 season.

Charles Thompson, Cam Holden, Nicolas Timberlake and Jason Gibson were named team captains for the 2022-23 season. All four return from last year's team which captured the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) regular season title and earned an NIT berth.

"It is with great appreciation and respect for what each of these student-athletes mean to our program that we are naming them captains for this season," Towson head coach Pat Skerry said of the quartet. "I look forward to continue working with them as we prepare for the start of the season and I am extremely grateful to get the opportunity to coach these Tigers."

The quartet returns as the top four scorers from a year ago that fueled a potent Tiger offense which had one of the biggest single-season turnarounds, going 25-9 after a 4-14 season the year prior. The 25 wins ties the most in a DI single season in program history.

Timberlake was the leading scorer a year ago averaging 14.4 ppg and 4.4 rpg shooting just under 50 percent from the floor. For his efforts, he earned All-CAA First Team honors. Timberlake scored double digits in 27 of the 34 games in 2021-22.

Cam Holden average 13.5 ppg and a team best 7.9 rpg, earning him not only All-CAA First Team honors but also a spot on the NABC Division I All-District 10 Team. Holden had a stretch of eight straight games with double digit points including a season-best 25 points against Pitt in November.

Thompson was joined Holden and Timberlake on the All-CAA First Team and was also named to the NABC Division I All-District 10 Team after averaging 10.8 ppg and 6.7 rpg having started every game for the Tigers. He finished the season with five double-doubles and 20 double figure scoring games.

Gibson played in 30 games in 2021-22, starting in the last 20 games of the season. He shot 42.9 percent from three, averaging 9.8 ppg with 14 double digit scoring games and 10 games with at least three three-point field goals made. He matched the Towson single game record with eight threes twice against Coppin State and Hofstra.

The Tigers begin the 2022-23 season at SECU Arena on Monday, Nov. 7 against UAlbany at 7 p.m.
