WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Towson University women's soccer team fell 2-0 to Hofstra in the CAA Tournament Semifinals. The loss was their first since September 22 against Monmouth, and just their third of the season.
Towson (12-3-5) fell behind early, as Hofstra (9-7-4) got an early penalty kick goal.
The Tigers end their best season since 2011 with 12 wins, second most in a single season in program history.
Key Stats:
- The Pride outshot the Tigers 8-6, but shots were equal in the second half, 5-5.
- Riley Melendez made two saves in net for the Tigers.
- Six different Tigers had a shot in the contest with Phoebe Canoles and Rebecca Groseibl putting shots on net.
How It Happened:
- Hofstra struck early in the 11th minute. After a foul in the box, Hofstra converted the penalty kick to take an early 1-0 lead.
- The Pride nearly doubled their lead, but a shot sailed over the outstretched hand of Riley Melendez.
- Phoebe Canoles had the only shot for the Tigers in the first half in the 38th minute. Canoles took a free kick and put it on net, but the Hofstra keeper made the save as the Pride took a 1-0 lead into the break.
- Resse Borden had a great look early in the second half. She took a free kick from 22 yards out but the shot sailed high.
- Hofstra added another goal in the 55th minute to take a 2-0 lead.
- Nia Christopher had the best chance for the Tigers late in the match. Christopher outran her defender into the box, but the Hofstra keeper made a sliding save. Hofstra would go on to win the match 2-0.

- Towson ends the 2022 season with 12 wins, the most in a single season since 2011.
