STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Towson University football team came back with a touchdown in its final drive to win 21-17 at Stony Brook for its third straight victory.

Towson's (5-5, 3-4 CAA) Devin Matthews scored a three-yard touchdown with 56 seconds left to give the Tigers the lead at Stony Brook (2-8, 1-6 CAA).  Towson held off a final drive, stopping the Seawolves in the red zone to hold for the win off a Robert Javier broken up pass.

With the win, Towson has won its last three games, including two road victories in that span.

How It Happened:
  • A 22-yard pass from Tyrrell Pigrome to Darian Street down the sideline kicked off the opening drive for Towson towards midfield.  Towson then went to the rush as Pigrome and D'Ago Hunter came down field to the Stony Brook 19.  On first down, a pass from Pigrome to Isaiah Perkins in the back of the end zone completed the 19-yard touchdown reception as Towson led 7-0 3:31 into the game.
  • Stony Brook mixed up the offense early with runs and passes.  The Seawolves got to their own 45 off an eight-yard run from Makhai Jinks.  On third down, Xavier Terry knocked away a pass around midfield to stop the SBU drive.  The punt was downed at the Towson 16.
  • Towson's next drive got extended after an SBU roughing the passer, but a couple of incomplete passes ended the chance shy of midfield.  Towson punted to the Stony Brook 22.
  • A Bryce Lauer seven-yard sack stifled Stony Brook's drive, but the Towson drive went three-and-out right after.  A pass to Shawn Harris Jr. turned into a 70-yard breakaway and touchdown, tying the score at 7-7 with 25 seconds left in 1st.
  • Pigrome threw three times in a row towards the sideline, once to Da'Kendall James then twice to Perkins, to go past midfield.  A couple of forced incompletions forced Towson to punt for a touchback.
  • Towson's front seven hurried the quarterback and forced quick passes for a three-and-out after just five yards gained.  Hunter rushed east-west to break for a first down around midfield, but a false start stifled Towson on third and one and led to a punt.  A touchback put the Seawolves on their own 20.
  • After a long drive with a couple of reviews, Towson held after two incompletions to force a punt, taking back over on its own 20.  A three-and-out sent the ball back to the home team.
  • Next drive, an 18-yard pass plus a roughing the passer call got Stony Brook to the Towson red zone.  On 2nd and goal from the nine, a rushed pass was picked off by Xavier Terry to end Stony Brook's drive without points.
  • Towson attempted a last drive of the first half, going down field with short passes to Perkins, Daniel Thompson IV and Perkins.  A six-yard pass to Brady McElhaney got Towson to its 45, but brought up fourth down.  Towson went for it, with the pass being broken up to give the ball back to Stony Brook.  The defense held off with two incompletions to keep the score tied 7-7 at the half.
  • Into the second half, Jesus Gibbs pushed back his blocker and had an eight-yard sack to force a three-and-out.  After Towson got back the ball, Hunter notched a 12-yard run, but Towson had to punt without another first down.
  • The Seawolves went down the field with quick passes, five of which turned into 8+ yard gains.  On second and seven from the Towson 38, Khalil Newton got past the Towson secondary and scored on the 30-yard catch.  Stony Brook led 14-7 with 7:54 left in the third.
  • Towson looked to respond, going back to the run with Hunter, who burst forward on a direct snap for 11 yards into Stony Brook territory.  Towson went for it on fourth down: Pigrome avoided the Stony Brook blitz and found Street open down the middle for the 36-yard catch and touchdown, tying the game at 14-14 with 3:58 left in the third.
  • Towson's defense forced a three-and-out and got back on offense, advancing with an 11-yard reception by James and a 16-yard draw by Pigrome.  A couple of penalties stopped Towson's attack, leading to a punt into the fourth quarter.
  • Stony Brook got rushes up the middle for a conversion and a spot to the SBU 45, but Towson forced an incompletion and took over on its own nine after the punt.  Towson had a botched snap on first down and had to punt being pushed back to its own three.  Riley Williams punted to midfield.
  • A couple of rushes and a 19-yard catch near the sideline brought the Seawolves just outside the red zone.  Ross Tallarico earned a first down on a rush up the middle and got first and goal.  Towson held Stony Brook away from the end zone on three rush attempts.  Angelo Guglielmello converted the 26-yard field goal attempt to put Stony Brook up 17-14 with 2:39 left to play.
  • Towson drove down the field and faced fourth down from its own 17, with Pigrome going down 27 yards down the sideline for the first down.  Pigrome found James for 13 yards, Perkins for five yards, Street for 20 and James for 21 to set up first and goal from the one.  Stony Brook stopped the first direct snap, then Devin Matthews took the direct snap and went three yards for the touchdown, giving Towson the lead 21-17 with 56 seconds left.
  • SBU attempted a final drive as Daron Bryden passed long down the field for gains of 31 yards and 18 yards to get down to the Towson 7.  On first down, Olyfride Okombi wrapped up Bryden for a six-yard sack.  Stony Brook spiked the ball and attempted one final throw.  Robert Javier knocked away the ball on a dive in the end zone for the incompletion.  Towson took the victory 21-17.
