Pearre Hat Trick Not Enough as Towson Women’s Lacrosse Downed by No. 10 Michigan

TOWSON, Md. – Blair Pearre scored a season-high three goals, but it was not enough as the Towson University women's lacrosse team was defeated by No. 10 Michigan 18-6 at Tiger Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Tigers (0-3) jumped out to a 2-0 advantage after five minutes of play. Freshman Milana Zizakovic scored unassisted at 13:05 then Pearre scored left-handed to make it 2-0 at the 10:00 mark.

After Michigan (5-0) tied the score at 2-all, Gabby Garrett scored her fifth goal of the season to give Towson a 3-2 lead with 3:59 remaining in the first quarter. Pearre and Zizakovic added second quarter tallies, but the Wolverines led 12-5 at halftime.

Pearre added a free-position goal in the third quarter, her second of the game. The former Under Armour All-American has 16 career hat tricks and has scored at least two goals in 22 of 26 games at the collegiate level.

How it Happened: 

  • Zizakovic scored unassisted at 13:05 to give Towson a 1-0 lead.
  • Pearre then made it 2-0 with an unassisted left-handed goal exactly five minutes into the game.
  • After Michigan tied the game at 2-all, Garrett scored on a crease roll to give the Tigers a 3-2 advantage. The junior has a goal in all three games this season.
  • Michigan led 4-3 after 15 minutes of play and increased it on a goal at 13:21of the second quarter. Pearre responded with a free-position goal at 12:29 to make it a one-goal game at 5-4.
  • Michigan went on a 5-0 run to extend the lead to 10-4 before Zizakovic scored a free-position goal.
  • The Wolverines scored the first two goals of the third quarter to go up 14-5. Pearre responded with a free-position tally.

Key Stats:

  • Pearre now has 44 career free-position goals. 
  • Towson's scheduled features six teams currently ranked in the ILWomen/IWLCA poll. Towson fell to No. 9 Loyola (Feb. 23) and No. 10 Michigan (Feb. 27) and will take on No. 15 Drexel (April 9), No. 18 James Madison (March 30), No. 22 Vanderbilt (March 23) and No. 24 Johns Hopkins (April 6) later in the season.

  • Five players have scored five goals this season: Pearre, Zizakovic, Garrett, Kerri Thornton and Halley Koras.
  • Defensive midfielder Shannon Sullivan had two draw controls for the second straight game.
  • Freshman Zizakovic, Koras and Sullivan have combined for 12 points and 12 draw controls in three games.
  • Sophomore defender Blair Goodrich caused a career-high two turnovers.
  • Junior defender Olivia Malamphy caused two turnovers, picked up two ground balls and won a draw control.
