Divers head to Zones, Benzing to Last Chance at Princeton

TOWSON, Md. – The postseason begins and the regular season truly comes to an end this weekend as the Towson University men's and women's swimming and diving teams head to different competitions over the next four days.

Four divers will head to Annapolis, Maryland for the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships while men's swimmer Brian Benzing heads to New Jersey for the Princeton Last Chance Meet.

Heading to the state capital for NCAA Zone A Diving Championships will be women's divers Alyssa Largay, Christina Coleman, and Sarah DiGaetano while men's diver Ajani Dorner will also compete at Lejeune Hall on base at the United States Naval Academy.

NCAA Zone A Diving Championships will run from Monday, March 7 to Wednesday. Monday features the women's 1-meter board and the men's 3-meter board with a noon start. Tuesday sees the men's 1-meter competition and the women's 3-meter dives.

Benzing will head to Princeton, New Jersey for action on Saturday, March 5. Preliminary swimming begins at 10 a.m. at DeNunzio Pool. Benzing will be swimming in the 100-yard breaststroke, looking to capture an NCAA A Cut and automatic berth to the NCAA Championships.

Getting to Lejeune Hall
There is no admission charge to attend the zone meet.  Fans without a Department of Defense-approved ID card must either park outside of the USNA and walk through the gate one security center or else park at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium and ride the free shuttle bus to and from the meet.  A photo ID is required to enter the USNA for those ages 18 and above, and those ages 17 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Shuttles will run from the blue (west) side of Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium from 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday and 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Alyssa Largay | 1-meter | 3-meter
Largay is the lone Tiger hitting both boards at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships. Last time out, Largay secured a third-place finish on the 3-meter board at the CAA Swimming & Diving Championships, her first career postseason podium. Largay scored a 275.60, including a huge 62.00 in the third round of the finals. The Paradise Valley, Arizonan hit a 3-meter season-high 289.20 on Jan. 19 in a dual meet at Loyola while scoring a 284.39 on the 1-meter board at the same meet. Largay finished fourth on the 1-meter at the CAA Championships with a 254.70.

Christina Coleman | 1-meter
Coleman has now qualified for the Zone Diving Championships in the last three seasons. She missed her trip as a sophomore due to a broken wrist prior to the meet. Last season, Coleman posted a 198.55 in the Zone A Diving finals. Coleman's 2021-22 season high on the 1-meter board was a 269.32 on November 6 in a dual at UMBC. Coleman finished first in the B Finals of the 1-meter CAA Championships, scoring a 261.85.

Sarah DiGaetano | 1-meter
DiGaetano makes her first career appearance at the NCAA Zone Diving Championships. DiGaetano logged a 219.35 in the 1-meter dive consolation finals after scoring a 229.55 in the preliminary round. The senior scored a season-best 271.88 on the 1-meter board on January 22 in a dual at Drexel.

Ajani Dorner | 1-meter
Dorner makes his first career appearance at the NCAA Zone Diving Championships as well. Dorner finished seventh at the CAA Championships on the 1-meter board, going big with the highest degree of difficulty in the field. On November 19 at the Bucknell Invitational, Dorner hit a season-best 307.45, winning the event.
