WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Towson University baseball team had a late three-run rally in the series finale at William & Mary but fell 10-3 on Sunday afternoon.
Towson (9-23, 0-6 CAA) scored three runs in the eighth inning vs. William & Mary (18-13, 7-2 CAA) but could not overcome an early 10-run deficit against a team currently tied for first place in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA).
Key Stats:
- Jack McLaughlin had his 11th multi-hit game of the year, going 2-for-3 from the clean-up spot. Danny Becerra reached base twice, finishing 1-for-4 with a run and hit-by-pitch.
- Starting pitcher Nick Janowicz (0-4) got the loss, having four runs in one-and-a-third innings. Three Towson pitchers had scoreless appearances: Andalo Santangelo, Ethan Pecko and Jordan Peyton.
- For W&M, Tyler Solomon came up a triple shy of the cycle, hitting 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, three runs and three RBI. Starter Rojo Prairie (3-2) got the win on three innings, no runs and three strikeouts.
How It Happened:
- William & Mary got off to a fast start, scoring all 10 runs in the opening five innings, including three runs in each the first, fourth and fifth frames.
- Towson's bats got rolling in the top of the eighth, beginning with leadoff singles from Jordan Peyton and Danny Becerra. Nick Brown hit a one-out sacrifice fly to bring in a run, then Towson got another runner on a dropped third strike. Jake Lysaght reached on an error at third, then two walks following brought in another run. Towson scored three runs in the frame but did not get closer and fell 10-3.
Next Game:
Towson will head to North Carolina next weekend to play UNCW. Game one is set for Friday, April 15 at 6 p.m.
