NEWARK, Del. – The Towson University women's lacrosse team ended its regular season with a big seven-goal Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) win over Delaware, 17-10, on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the team secured the No. 1 seed in the 2022 Women's Lacrosse CAA Tournament.
Towson stayed in control for the entire 60-minute contest, never surrendering the lead. Delaware rallied twice in the first half, putting the score within one, but Towson stayed on top.
Kerri Thornton led the way for the Tigers with a career best six goals on just seven shots. Blair Pearre added four scores while Gabby Garrett and Lindsay Clarke also tallied two apiece. Milana Zizakovic, Kerri Liucci and Kaitlin Thornton contributed one goal each.
Pearre had a very well-rounded performance in addition to her four scores, pacing the team with three ground balls, two caused turnovers and six draw controls. Blair Goodrich matched her with two turnovers caused.
Pearre, the former Under Armour All-American, now has 23 career hat tricks and has scored at least two goals in 32 of 38 games at the collegiate level. She remains 12th on the top 20 scoring list with 112 career goals. She is now just 10 scores behind Andi Raymond (122).

How it Happened
- Towson got things going early with a pair of goals from Pearre and Kerri Thornton just 41 seconds apart. Delaware answered on its first offensive possession shortly after to make the score 2-1.
- Garrett added a score of her own off a feed from Halley Koras before the Blue Hens got another goal to make the score 3-2.
- Before the end of the first quarter, the Thornton sisters each scored to put the Tigers ahead, 5-2.
- UD got back on the board at the start of the second to cut the deficit, 5-3. Clarke had a quick answer however, as she wrapped around for the score.
- Delaware rallied to score back-to-back goals 41 seconds apart to put the game back within one score, 6-5, with just over seven minutes to go in the first half.
- Towson hung on though, going on a four-goal spurt to regain the comfortable 10-5 edge. Kerri Thornton recorded consecutive scores just 57 seconds apart in the run.
- With time winding down in the opening half, the Blue Hens secured two more goals to make the score 10-7. Kerri Thornton found the back of the net once more before time expired to tie her career best five goals in the first 30 minutes of action.
- The Black & Gold carried the momentum into the second half as Kerri Liucci and Pearre contributed scores early to keep the team up, 13-7. UD came back with a score to cut the deficit to five goals.
- Kerri Thornton rounded out the third quarter for Towson by setting a new career high of six goals. Delaware added one more before the end of the period to make the score 14-9.
- Pearre once again got things started in the fourth quarter, with a free position goal to keep the Tigers in control, 15-9.
- To end the contest, Zizakovic and Garrett each added goals to keep the 17-10 advantage. UD scored in between, but it was not enough, as the Black & Gold ended the regular season with the victory.

- Towson won the draw control battle, 19-12. Pearre led the way with six draw controls to bring her career total up to 160. She remains ranked fifth in program history, just 8 behind Becky Trumbo (168).
- Kaitlin Thornton moved up to take sole possession of 15th on the all-time scoring list with 102 career goals.
- Kerri Thornton's previous career high of five goals was set earlier this season at UMBC (3/9). The six goals put her intro triple digits for career points with 104.
- Mia Rehkemper earned her first career assist, dishing the feed on Garrett's second goal in the fourth quarter.
- Carly Merlo ended the day with nine saves.
- With seven unique goal scorers against the Blue Hens, the Tigers have now seen five or more players score in nine consecutive outings.

Top-seeded Towson will meet Delaware in the semifinals of the 2022 CAA Tournament on Friday, May 6 at 4 p.m. The tournament will be hosted by Drexel at Vidas Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The championship game will follow on Sunday, May 8 at 12 p.m.
