TOWSON, MD. – The Towson University softball team ended the 2022 season with a pair of losses to Hofstra in
Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) action Sunday at the Tiger Softball Stadium. The Pride won the opener 2-1 then took the nightcap 8-4.
In Game 1, Towson pitcher
Julia Jackson went the distance for the 18
th time this season. The game was scoreless until the fifth inning when Hofstra scored a run in the top of the frame. The Tigers tied it in the bottom half on an RBI single by
Briana Ramirez. The Pride re-took the lead with a run in the sixth and held on for the victory, which clinched second place in the conference.
In Game 2, the Tigers trailed 8-0 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, but scored four runs on four hits, including a 3-run home run by
Chloe Poulich. The senior third baseman had three hits in her final career game and went 5-for-7 in Sunday's doubleheader.

How it Happened (Game 1):
- In the bottom of the first inning, Mackenzie Lake doubled off left field wall, narrowly missing her sixth home run. Haley Venturini retired Poulich on a line drive to third base to end the threat.
- Venturini and Jackson engaged in a scoreless duel in the early innings. Jackson retired 10 straight batters between the second and fifth innings before Hofstra plated a run with a pair of extra base hits in the fifth for a 1-0 lead.
- Towson battled back in the bottom half of the fifth. Cori Jones leadoff the inning with a single, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Gracyn Houmis then moved to third on a wild pitch. Ramirez brought Jones home with a single to left field.
- After Hofstra took a 2-1 lead in the sixth, Poulich had a one-out single, but Towson could not produce another hit. Poulich was the only player with more than one hit in the opener.
- Jackson allowed two runs on five hits and struck out two. She led the CAA in innings pitched (160.1) and complete games (18).
How it Happened (Game 2):
- Freshman Paige Kostick pitched the first four innings, allowing three runs on five hits. Madeline Harris gave up five runs in three innings of work but did strike out three batters.
- Through six innings, Towson was held to two hits- both singles by Poulich.
- Rylee Penrod led off the bottom of the seventh with a single to center field and advanced to second on a walk by Lauren Civetti. Penrod was thrown out trying to steal third.
- Ramirez had an infield single advancing Civetti. One out later, Lake then delivered an RBI single to right field making it 8-1.
- In her final career at bat, Poulich followed with a 3-run home run to left field to cut the deficit to 8-4.
Inside the Numbers:
- Ramirez had hits in both games and finished second in the CAA with a .379 batting average (55-of-145). The sophomore had hits in 38 games this season. She and Lake were the only two players to play (and start) in all 47 games.
- After the doubleheader, Towson honored the senior class of Melissa Abrahamian, Katie Capizzi, Cali Christopher, Lauren Civetti, Jess DaBreo, Gracyn Houmis, Julia Jackson, Nicole Kidwiler, Bre McDowell, Rylee Penrod and Chloe Poulich.
