TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's soccer team had to battle through a nearly two-hour weather delay for a 0-0 draw against Northeastern on Sunday afternoon.
Towson (7-2-2, 0-1-1 CAA) and Northeastern (3-4-3, 0-1-1 CAA) both had great chances but could not find a goal through 90 minutes of play.
Key Stats:
- Nia Christopher and Jasmine Hamid each had four shots for the Tigers who outshot the Huskies 18-11.
- Towson earned six corner kicks compared to five for Northeastern.
- In goal, Riley Melendez recorded four saves for her seventh shutout of the campaign.
How It Happened:
- Northeastern had most of the possession early on, including a pair of shots that were blocked to keep it level.
- Riley Melendez made a big save in the 14th minute on a shot from 15 yards out.
- Jasmine Hamid had two great looks in the first half, but both times her shot rang off the crossbar.
- Towson would threaten late in the half. Phoebe Canoles and Alexandra Rush both had shots saved from point blank range, as Towson and Northeastern went into the half deadlocked at 0-0.
- Riley Melendez came up big with another big save in the 57th minute to keep things tied.
- Nia Christopher had the best chance of the contest off a free kick. Christopher took a shot from 20 yards out, but Holland Stam made a diving save to keep it scoreless.
- The game was delayed in the 60th minute due to lighting in the area. The match was delayed for one hour and 40 minutes before restarting.
- Following the restart, both teams would generate chances, but neither side could find the back of the net as the two sides battled to a 0-0 draw.
